Game 2016.108: White Sox at Tigers

The Tigers completed the first challenge on their August pitching gauntlet, thanks to a storybook homerun from JD, and another brilliant pitching performance by Michael Fulmer. Sale was dominant, but the Tigers were even better, scratching out a 2-1 win to guarantee a third straight series win.  You really should click on the link to watch/re-watch/re-watch/re-watch the JD home run (and then tune to 2:31.31 if you want to listen to Dan’s call on the MLB.tv radio archives). Goosebumps.

Today the Tigers face Jose Quintana, tomorrow it’s Noah Syndergaard, and then Sunday it’s Jacob deGrom. (They do play on Saturday but I don’t know that Mets pitcher. The other 2 are frightening enough). We’re not gonna win every game, but we’re squarely back in the race. Still a lot of games to play.

No VMart (mild illness extra rest) or Maybin (mild thumb sprain) today. Zimmermann back on the hill.

  1. The Tigers have been on a roll in their attempt to make the playoffs, meanwhile the ChiSox are basically hopeless to make the post-season during 2016.

  2. So who made the decision to bring Zimmerman up?
So who made the decision to actually pitch him befote he is ready?…
    He can barely hit 91,…Brad
We been doing fine with out him!
And don’t give us the BS of he is rusty!…

    1. They said his rehab starts were not so good. I’m afraid he may have some mechanics problems, not just physical. If they can not sort it out by his next start, put him back on the DL so we can have another body on the team.

  3. I would hope the Tiger hitters are aware that it is impossible to hit a 5 run homer in MLB.

  4. This game is exactly the way Zimmerman has pitched in his last 6-7 games. I know the streak had to end but. Zimmerman hasn’t pitched well in MONTHS!!

  5. Zimmerman back in for MRI…..the “no-one is ever held accountable Tigers will annouce “OOPS”, “thats baseball”!…..

  6. Looking forward to the Mets, we could take 2 out of 3. In the opener, JV can certainly match anybody even Syndergaard, who hasn’t gone past the 6th in his last 4 games. On Saturday Verrett is not formidable but Boyd has to keep us in the game and have a decent outing. Sunday is a bit of a mismatch with deGrom vs Sanchez. deGrom has been very good lately so we need a miracle from Annibal. Of course our offense can not shut down for this series or we are in trouble.
