The news of Magglio Ordonez’s prolonged absence is certainly devastating on a number of fronts and only compounded by the loss of Carlos Guillen. Already without Brandon Inge for at least a month the Tigers lost a third of their starting lineup in the last week. It changes the outlook for the trade deadline, and may very well change the look of the 2011 team. It also likely puts a significant dent in Miguel Cabrera’s chances for a triple crown.
Armando Galarraga takes the Comerica Park mound since, well, you know when.Still no Magglio Ordonez in the lineup, and this is the perfect time for a Carlos Guillen day off?
Well, at least Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen made significant returns to the lineup. Beyond that the theme of the night was frustration. Despite Cabrera’s 3 homer heroics the Tigers managed to repeatedly come up short in most facets of the game.
The Mud Hens face Strasburg and Carlos Guillen turns two double plays. Robbie Weinhardt leaves the game due to injury. Plus Adam Wilk stars for the Flying Tigers
Carlos Guillen and Ryan Strieby work there way back by going deep. Andy Oliver fans 9. Lakeland pounds St. Lucie. And Jade Todd leaves prematurely with an injury.
I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t know how Carlos Guillen moving to second base will work. However I like the move and I like what the Tigers are trying to do.
56-50, 2nd place, 2.5 games behind CWS (who have won 3 in a row, come on LAA). Nice easy win last night. Haven’t seen one of those in a few days. I’m gonna get to the latest in A-Ram and others tomorrow (hopefully), but I wanted to put up a quick note about the Red Sox job. Bobby Valentine beat out Gene Lamont, much to the chagrin of everyone reading this post, Paws, and the Tigers official scorer. – Maicer Izturis? So who is on the … Continue reading Hot Stove Talk, Part 3→
A bit of post-celebration malaise perhaps? At any rate, the Tigers are in danger of losing their first series since approximately the invention of styrofoam. Magglio Ordonez continued his September surge with 3 more hits, raising his September batting average to .464. Seriously. Taking the mound today at the absurdly named O.co Coliseum (shouldn’t Bud … Continue reading Game 2011.153: Tigers at A’s→
The D (for Domination) train rolls into Chicago tonight as the Tigers look win 10 in a row for the first time since 1968. The Tigers now find themselves perched at number 4 in both the ESPN power rankings and the MLB.com fan rankings, and their 9 win streak matches the longest since 1984. 1968 and … Continue reading Game 2011.147: Tigers at White Sox→
We all knew what it meant last night with Justin Verlander taking the mound following a Tiger loss, and he did not disappoint, becoming the first Tiger pitcher to record 21 wins since Jack Morris in 1986. It was also a milestone for Ol’ Smokey, as Jim Leyland notched his 500th win as a Tiger … Continue reading Game 2011.139: White Sox at Tigers→
