I had to think about it, but I’ve decided I like winning 10-1 better than losing 8-4. Justin “Ricky” Verlander dominated KC without really being dominant. Pretty darn good. He didn’t seem too happy about being lifted from the game rather unnecessarily, or maybe he was just upset with Ezequiel Carrera’s nonchalance in allowing a runner … Continue reading Game 2014.154: Tigers at Royals→
Howdy, friends and neighbors. The Tigers (5-3) try to get back on the righteous path tonight against the Padres (4-6), with our hero Justin Verlander carrying the bulk of our hopes for putting up a W to counter the L. He’ll be facing Ian Kennedy, who has the possible misfortune of facing a lineup thoroughly … Continue reading Pregame 9: Detroit Tigers at San Diego Padres→
Detroit Tigers, 84-72, 1st place, 2 up, magic number 5. Well, that’s fun, after all this–that magic number thing. After a disappointing “outing” by Rick Porcello on Wednesday (in which he got Not Enough Outs), Doug Fister came through in a big way, with Way Too Many Strikeouts, to the tune of an American League … Continue reading Game 2012.157: Tigers at Twins→
With the first round of MLB series in the books, the two hottest teams in baseball meet in Detroit for a 3-game series. The Tigers swept their opening series with the Red Sox and the Rays swept the Yankees, only the 2nd time the Yankees and Red Sox were simultaneously swept in their opening series. … Continue reading Game 2102.4: Rays at Tigers→
The Tigers performance with runners in scoring position of late has caused much consternation. Sometime the failures have just been bad, but during this recent stretch a significant portion was bad luck. It’s only fitting then that Ramon Santiago plated the go-ahead run with an “excuse-me” flop shot to left.
Things just don’t seem to go well for the Tigers in LA (or Anaheim). For all the talk of the Tigers struggles in the Metrodome, opportunity for frustration against the Angels always seems to run high. Dontrelle Willis takes on Joel Pineiro tonight.
It’s Sunday evening and this concludes my foray into full time blogging. I took this week off to delve into the winter meetings and cover them to the best of my ability. It proved to be an especially eventful week for Tigers fans and this blog. With that we’ll do one last set of hot stove rumors and news nuggets and a couple other thoughts as well.
With the deals for LaTroy Hawkins and Brandon Lyon it appears that the market for “back end of the bullpen pitchers who could potentially set-up or close” may be getting steep for the Tigers. And with that the club may turn to in house options such as Joel Zumaya and Ryan Perry.
There goes one potential closer option for the Tigers with Brandon Lyon inking a 3 year, $15 milion deal with the Houston Astros pending a physical. It’s a great deal for Lyon, but probably a year longer than the Tigers would have preferred to go.
As Tigers fans let us just hope that today is relatively boring. The Tigers will remain active and the roster will continue to change but hopefully we’re done with franchise-type players leaving. In the meantime here’s a recap of what happened yesterday – including some late notes – as well as a look at what may happen today.
The first day of the Winter Meetings has come to an end and the sun is coming up on a snowy second day. For Tigers fans there was no shortage of news and drama. The recap follows.
