Game 2016.48: Tigers at A’s

Tigers have won 9 of 11, are 1 game over .500, and 2 back of Cle in the AL central. They won’t keep up this pace, but they could be average enough in an average division. Ausmus’ seat temp has been reduced from scalding to boiling, maybe even just hot at this point in time.

Matt Boyd gets his first start of the season this afternoon. He’s been tearing it up a Toledo this year – In eight starts he’s 1-3 with a 2.06 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.

A’s pitcher Jesse Hahn has been very good against the Tigers in the past: 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA over 16 innings in two previous starts.

Castellanos’ defense looks to be so much better. Or he’s at least on the ground a ton more. Unfortunately, the stats don’t say so. He’s last among qualifying AL 3B in Fangraphs’ UZR and overall defensive rating. Sigh. I really wasn’t expecting that.

4. Victor Martinez, DH

5. Nick Castellanos, 3B

  1. Great job by Boyd getting out of that jam, he’ll probably pitch count out pretty early today, looks like a bullpen kind of game.

      1. +1
        …sums it up best

CWS bullpen gave up 7 runs to KC in the bottom of the 9th today to lose 8-7… DET’s was just as ugly…just a little less condensed

still need to win the series tomorrow

  2. Just another unbelievable Little League base running mistake. Hey Kisnler you’d be at third no one out…Miggy coming up….duh!

  3. Lets see..a single…two stolen bases…a walk…a two base error…another single…..only the Tigers can turn that into 0 runs………

  4. The difference so far is we have squandered our opportunities (we’ve had many) and they have not.

  5. Matt Boyd Report Card: Pitched well enough to be at least tied. So far the team has let him down both offensively and defensively. JD is having a great day stranding runners.

    1. In the 4th and 5 Tigers put seven runners on and only scored on a wild pitch!!!

  6. Can’t believe Brad took Saupold out after ONLY 5 STRAIGHT HITS!…An Ausmus trademark of I will let you get bombed…everytime!
And brings in his favorite who must lead the league in inherited ruunners who score!

    1. If Lamont is calling the shots, we will know where Brad gets half of his poor coaching decisions. And Lamont lets Wilson get bombed!…coincedence…I think not!!!
