Game 2015.95: Mariners at Tigers

Last night was our turn to feast on a main dish of grand slam, with a tasty side of Mariner clown show. Today we get Price, and a decent shot at a two-game winning streak. He might need to go 10 though.

The win last night went to everyone’s head, and Brad got all crazy and put McCann in against a right-handed pitcher for today. What the heck, if he can do that, I can push my luck with the lucky Game Post Picture, right?

Today’s trade rumors: Cubs are interested in Price (who wouldn’t be?), the Angels are interested in Cespedes (who wouldn’t be?), the Giants are wanting Rajai Davis (hmm), and the Twins are considering Alex Avila (sell! sell!).

Today’s One-Game-Winning Streak Lineup:

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Yoenis Cespedes, LF
  3. Victor Martinez, DH
  4. JD Martinez, RF
  5. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  6. Marc Krauss, 1B
  7. James McCann, C
  8. Jose Iglesias, SS
  9. Anthony Gose, CF

Brad Ausmus wonders “what was I thinking, batting Krauss 5th?” Then he takes a deep breath, and moved him down to…6th.

  1. The more I look at that picture, the more JD Martinez looks like a vampire. Which means you should probably rest him for day games.

  2. One thing from a very positive note is the outfield has gone from the worst to first defensively…Cespedes will be missed..Cespedes and Martinez EACH have more assists than the entire outfield last year.

  3. 45 pitches through 4. How is that even possible?

I saw a highlight on SC last night where 20 years ago Greg Maddux threw a 78 pitch complete game with only 15 balls.

BTW – does anyone watch SportsCenter anymore? I sat through about 20 min last night and it was awful.

    1. It keeps getting worse somehow. I’m not sure how. I assumed that there must be a lot of people that like it better, and I just had different tastes.

  4. Jim Price” Igaawa is not really a strikeout pitcher,.He has 7 because as you know the Tigers swing alot”…….hellllooooo!

    1. in the freep article, Cespedes has indicated to friends he wants to return to DET (even if they trade him), but the word on Price is he’s not coming back

      1. I think Cespedes really likes all his Latino and Cuban teammates. I think he would comeback without trying to gouge out huge money. Price is just plain gone..I say he gets $220 mil from someone, Cubs,Dodgers, Angels..

        1. i sure hope Cespedes comes back, its been a while since DET had a LF that could hit and field… and w/JD, that makes for a real solid corner OF’ers

  5. personally, i’d play Romine at 3B and Castellanos at 1B, instead of Krauss (1B)… i mean .137 doesn’t necessarily promote confidence in Krauss’ abilities.

      1. Vince, you know Krauss is going to be the hero today since i dogged all buck-37 of him…

  6. Price’s next scheduled start w/DET, 7/28 – 3 days before deadline

…the way the rest of DET SP’s are pitching, DET should consider going old school and run Price out there on 3 days rest – thus, getting two more starts out of him… i’m kidding… i think

  7. I know Victor has the 2 RBI but that gives him only 4 this past 12 games..he also has 12 Ks….he is hiding something!

  8. i wonder if it was Ausmus or DD’s call to bring Price back out for 9th w/114 pitches

    1. …to me it indicates ‘the obvious’ = no confidence in the bullpen, but it could also indicate they’re seriously considering trading him.

gotta give Price credit for being a gamer, and recognizing when the team needs him… i’ll miss that if they trade him or some other team signs him

  9. Why does Detroit always look so damn punchless in extras, even on home turf?

  10. Hey Jeff Jones..Cano came into the series batting .250….your scouting report on how to pitch him….sucks!

  11. 13..k’s..swing batter batter batter …swing!..batter batter….1 hit in 11 innings RISP…and the Tiger players want to buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Frickin….Pathetic!…2 runs 4 1/2 hours ago and nothing since…Sell..then fire everyone!

  13. Brings in his worst reliever Krol with game tied…brings in his best reliever when they fall behind….tonight he will brag about this was absolutely the right decision and were all morons!

    1. More likely, “Well things just didn’t work out tonite. That’s baseball”.

  14. Punchless Tigers gonna win this one in bottom 12?
    Fat chance. Surprise me, team….

  15. Either lose or win this inning ——don’t friggin’ tie. Don’t drag out the pain.

  16. Your pregame picture is JD and Casty laughing at us for tuning in after their combined o-fer and game losing error …the jokes on us…hahaha on us.

    1. Porcello is really hoping for no rain ..because when you are struggling there nothing like facing the Sluggos to straightnen out your ERA

  17. RedSox & fans take heart: Tigers are known to be a panacea for struggling teams. 8-game losing streak? You’ll probably look like the ’27 Yanks tonite.
But frankly, I’m hoping that Verly can get that 1st W.

  18. Read where Porcello would like to comeback to Detroit. He is not happy with changes they wanted him to make in his pitching…one thing for sure no one in Detroit will mess with your pitches…after all who knows anything??….but I would take him back in a second!!!!..still young!
