Game 2015.77: Pirates at Tigers

Last night’s loss is on the O, not the pen, or even Gorzelanny. Alex Wilson was at 50+ pitches and Gorzelanny was the last guy in the pen. Ausmus didn’t have any other options. A hit with a RISP would have been nice. 3-15 usually isn’t going to get the job done; unless of course you are Pittsburgh and get a W hitting 2-16 w RISP. Baseball is a funny game.

TIGERS (career numbers off A.J. Burnett)

  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B (6-for-28, 2 doubles, HR, walk, 4 K’s)
  4. Victor Martinez, DH (8-for-29, 2 doubles, 2 HR, 7 walks, 4 K’s)
  5. Yoenis Cespedes, LF (1-for-3, double, K)
  6. J.D. Martinez, RF (1-for-13, 3 K’s)
  7. Nick Castellanos, 3B (1-for-3, K)

  1. Victor was upset at getting hit yesterday. Said theres bad blood now with the Pirates….hey Victor I have a better idea quit whinning and knock in 1 or 2 of the runners you left on base with the game on the line……and win the game!!!!!!!!

    1. On that GIPD to end the game he just looked tired. It might be oversimplifying things, but I think he is just not going to come through in a 14th inning. How about McCann though? Catching 14 innings, and still hitting, and trying to take extra bases at the end of the game. And back in the lineup tonight. Guy is a Gamer.

    2. Also Cabrera was worthless last night, never a good thing–the team seems to deflate when that happens. And he starts today with a strikeout. Another couple games like this, and I’ll start wondering if something is wrong.

  2. Tigers had so much trouble last night bringing in runners from 2nd and 3rd. Alfredo Simon says “Hey, watch me; it’s easy! I know how to bring runners in!” (Of course, that last one was on Miggy).

  3. Jupiter and Venus are in close proximity, and Cabrera’s mind will be there soon.

  4. Not only Victor looking tired…..with the exception of McCann..JD…EVeryone plays tired!!!!. It stems in my opinion from Miggy dragging to the plate…dragging himself all the way to first,,, dragging himself all the way back to the dugout. I know he’s hitting .340.., but his body languague says a lot!……..or he is hurt!

    1. You’re right. And I hope it’s some minor physical ailment; if it’s mental, that’s harder to get over.

  5. BOTH teams played 14 innings last night. One looks beat. And it’s not coming from the bottom of the order.

  6. And regardless of how Fielder is doing The Rangers are laughing at us still over the Kinsler trade!!!!!!…he can play some D ..when he wants to, but other than that he is worthless..

  7. AlAl does what he always does..allow someone elses run to score…but lower that ERA

  8. Ausmus really stepping outside his comfort zone —–letting Iggy bunt.
    Tigers waste it tho…….
Good to see Kinsler furious after his sick-looking K. I was beginning to think he didn’t give a hoot anymore.

  9. Kinsler takes a FB right down the middle, like he always does…hello, for strike one. He takes another FB on the outer half for strike two…..then swings at a pitch in the dirt for strike three….Kinsler takes that first strike 90% of the time. We teach our high school players to be ready for that first pitch it might just be the best pitch you will see…

  10. I wonder if Tigers’ management notices how many cupcakes Joba serves up these days.

  11. Joba is razor sharp again tonight…like always…Assmus will make some kind of excuse for him…like always!!!

      1. I get that part…but why is it like it is when everyone has a very good bullpen if they are a contender!

  12. Maybe one if these years the Tigers could address their bullpen issues? Is that too much for a fan to ask?

    1. Not too much, Mark, but this organization seems to be awfully slooooow learners.

      1. And every team they play Have these outstanding bullpens!. So the pitchers are out there. Everyone but the Tigers seems to have them….your right though, not much of a priority. Soria fine, who thought Nathan would fall apart. Texas is laughing at that one also. But thats about all the real addressing they have done besides signing a bunch of washed up nobody’s no one wants……

  13. Why does every team the Tigers play not named Cleveland, Minnesota, or Chicago make them look like a Little League team!!!!!!!

  14. DET pitching staff just gave up 9 runs and 21 hits + 4HR’s to a team that’s 21st in MLB in runs scored and 27th in HR’s

    1. Yeah, someone said it before here —–we have a knack for being the cure-all for ailing teams.

  15. I am warming to McCann…he is getting better everyday!!….just in time for Daddys boy to come back and hit .215 and put McCann on the bench!!!!..Assmus will say he will platoon them…..but he WON’T!

    1. McCann was 3-for-6 last night with a “home run” (thanks, Lame Fan). And he caught 14 innings. Then came back tonight with a 2-for-4 with a home run. James McCann, you’re a bad man!

  16. Ausmus quotes after the game, “Joba had good stuff”……”Kinsler will come around, I am not worried”.nuff said about our leader!

  17. HOU (yes, the Astros) just swept KC, so DET “could have gained some ground” in the AL Central race – they clearly did NOT.

i keep waiting for ‘the stars to align’ and for DET to start piling up wins, but i’m really starting to question if they’re capable… seeing as (with the exception of CLE) over the past two months they have had trouble beating good teams, bad teams and mediocre teams.

i still believe they have the talent to win the AL Central (though pitching is becoming a big concern); but if something doesn’t significantly change soon, maybe they’re destined to be just another team hovering around .500

  18. “This isn’t anything booing compared to New York City,” Chamberlain said. “I’ve seen it all. Like I said, if you don’t do your job, you deserve to get booed.”

    …and/or fired
