OK, let’s try this again.  This afternoon the Tigers have a second chance at attaining that elusive first winning record.  They will be working against an old friend, Edwin Jackson.  The Tigers counter with the to-this-point underwhelming Brad “Bad” Penny.

I seem to remember Mr. Jackson had quite a proclivity for the high pitch count; perhaps his teammates remember also and we can get to the Chicago bullpen early today.

Today’s Player of the Pre-Game:  Brennan Boesch

Boesch continues to bash; sandwiched between the always dangerous Cabrera and the suddenly hot Raburn, the Boesch Bash will be the key to putting runs on the board.

Today’s Raburn-homers-then-dropped-in-the-order lineup:

  1. Austin Jackson CF
  2. Will Rhymes 2B
  3. Magglio Ordonez DH
  4. Miguel Cabrera 1B
  5. Brennan Boesch RF
  6. Ryan Raburn LF
  7. Jhonny Peralta SS
  8. Alex Avila C
  9. Brandon Inge 3B

I don’t think AJax got your message on EJax PC issues.

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 4:22 pm

At least a strikeout takes a minimum 3 pitches

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 4:23 pm

Raburn down in the order. The good news is that Peralta is also down, while Boesch is up. The bad news is that Jackson is still leading off and Rhymes is batting second. On the other hand, I guess there is only so much bottom-of-the-order at a time. At least Rhymes worked a walk.

Mr. X April 23, 2011 at 4:37 pm

Penny seems to be breathing through his eyes. I wonder if he’s wearing a garter belt also.

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 4:39 pm

See, that’s the disadvantage of following the game on the radio. Or is that advantage?

Mr. X April 23, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Avila is still stroking it.

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 4:48 pm

Must be Penny’s garter belt!

Kevin in Dallas April 23, 2011 at 4:46 pm

I can’t believe the hitters are ruining Penny’s no-no.

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 4:56 pm

Mr. X April 23, 2011 at 5:22 pm

Avila is almost country strong. He’s county strong.

Kevin in Dallas April 23, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Early candidate for POG (“post of the game”).

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 5:22 pm

judpma April 23, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 5:27 pm

Good idea. AJax should bunt more.

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 5:29 pm

Wow, 4-4 R3L2O, I’m feeling faint…

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 5:30 pm

Jinx!

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 7:26 pm

5 for 6 today, I think!

Kevin in Dallas April 23, 2011 at 5:30 pm

Is it wrong that I’m bummed that Cabrera didn’t pick up an RBI there?

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 6:15 pm

There’s your RBI

JOE Z April 23, 2011 at 5:30 pm

yesssss

JOE Z April 23, 2011 at 5:32 pm

to scoring runs, not to kevin. miguel will get his

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 5:34 pm

Remember how bummed many of us were that the Tigers didn’t sign Dunn? Not so much at the moment…

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Well, I said Brad Penny was underwhelming up to this point, but he is really beginning to whelm

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 5:49 pm

Is Avila calling the game or Leyland/Knapp from the dugout?

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 5:56 pm

#%!* Shroom

Steve April 23, 2011 at 6:06 pm

I switched over to listen the Sox broadcast for a little bit, These guys are unbelievable, they make it sound like they have it all together as a team. Hawk is not there. Does anyone know what happened to him, I loved listening to him when the Sox loose.

I would love to be listening to Hawk Sunday when we sweep them on Easter.

Steve

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 6:17 pm

Wow Ozzie letting Edwin twist in the wind out there, is he trying to make some point?

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Waiting for the right match-up?

JOE Z April 23, 2011 at 6:18 pm

weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

JOE Z April 23, 2011 at 6:19 pm

stick a fork in ‘em

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 6:19 pm

Cabrera has also taken to completely ignoring Crazy Gene Lamont also

Kevin in Dallas April 23, 2011 at 6:20 pm

I just came back from watching the Mavs game, why in the heck is EJ just now getting pulled?

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Maybe Ozzie just gave up on this one and is letting Jackson take one for the team to save on the bullpen. He clearly didn’t have it that inning, but the Sox offense has been MIA as well.

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Because Ozzie Guillen is bat-crazy?

Kevin in Dallas April 23, 2011 at 6:34 pm

Correct answer.

Mr. X April 23, 2011 at 6:29 pm

because their bullpen only makes things worse

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 6:35 pm

What’s a manager to do?

Kevin in Dallas April 23, 2011 at 6:46 pm

Bravo Bad Brad. Bravo.

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 6:53 pm

If Penny can pitch like this once every few starts, and Coke can do the same, we’ll have a bit of a nice pitching staff here.

And it gives me a warm feeling to have a good bullpen.  Having a Benoit to come in for the 8th inning is a nice luxury.  To put things in perspective, Tampa replaced Benoit with…Farnsworth…

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 7:01 pm

Cabrera Crush!

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 7:02 pm

Plus Quentin Quirk

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 7:04 pm

Another Ryan Raburn Rip!

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 7:04 pm

RBI-Burn

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 7:07 pm

9 – 0 lead…where’s Enrique Gonzalez when you need him?

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 7:16 pm

Alburquerque did his best imitation.

Coleman April 23, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Captain Querque

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 7:23 pm

I like that nickname, I just hope he can hang around long enough for it to stick.

Vince in MN April 23, 2011 at 7:19 pm

Let’s embarrass them again tomorrow.
