Game 2010.004: Indians at Tigers

Yes, the Tigers have played 3 games already, but with the boys back in Detroit now it really feels like summer is back (well, except for the snow flurries this morning).

Sophomore Rick Porcello gets the home opener nod, quite the honor but also well deserved. It also is a favorable match-up. Porcello faced the Indians 4 times last year and went 3-0 with a 1.80 ERA over 25 innings.

Southpaw David Huff is on the mound for the Indians. He has never faced any of the Tigers hitters before. He had a 5.61 ERA last year and a propensity for allowing homers with 16 in 128.1 innings. He did seem to correct that problem though and only allowed 1 homer in his last 7 starts and finished the season with 5 straight quality starts.

Hope to see you down here for the festivities.

  1. Good to see Laird finally throw a guy out. Porcello is looking nasty out there.

  2. If they can’t start driving the ball, then better start some small ball. Their at-bats look pathetic.

    1. I’m following on MLB Gameday. How did an infield throwing error result in three runs?

      1. it rolled all the way to the wall in right and Jackson didn’t slow down at all and scored from third

    1. Rod: “that foul had home-run distance…”

See, no hits, but he did have that one good foul…

  3. i’m sorry but Laird at bat is PATHETIC throw your bat at a ball low and 6 inches outside …wow

      1. Oops, I meant F-R3L2O, it was a fail but not a K (it seems you can’t edit anymore, hmmm).

  4. this is now the story of the decade….runner on third less than two outs no 0 runs

  5. That is so frustrating!

I would really like to know what kind of words or thoughts take place in the dugout when this kind of failure to score happens. It’s gotta drive Leyland crazy.

  6. Well Coke didn’t throw strikes in KC and he can’t throw strikes here…is is consistent

  7. you all look pretty bundled up in the Detroit cold…its about 70 here in LA …sorry

  8. Do thge Tigers have any player that can lay down a decent bunt? I hate it when they show bunt but then change their mind.

  9. Zoom is the man. Whomever said we should think about trading him is nuts. Btw, what just happened? My gamecast thingy said two on, no outs, then a DP and we are out of the inning. And did Austin Jackson seriously stretch a throwing error into scoring from first? Was there even a play at the plate?

    1. no play….. the ball whet all the way to the RF wall he scored flying by the plate running

  10. What a great AB bat by Damon…works the count fouls off 5 pitches and hits the right ball to move Jackson to third…that is a professional hitter that understands the game…

Then Maggs comes thru! it was a double but if caught Jackson still would have scored..R3L2O run

    1. Yeah man working counts is a Bosox staple (see Kevin Youkilis). He worked the count the other night late in the game to get a walk to set the table for Miggy’s heroics. Sure it would be nice for him to pick it up a bit in the hits department, but it’s nice to have him there working counts.
