Game 2009.009: White Sox at Tigers

PREGAME:  This is more of a theoretical game post, because the chances of this game being played are pretty slim. But…if they do play it will be Rick Porcello making his home debut against John Danks.

Porcello was hurt by a couple homers in his first start against the Blue Jays. He surrendered 7 other hits, but all were singles and most were ground balls.

Danks picked up his 2009 season where he left off his great 2008 season by blanking the Royals for 6 innings of 3 hit, 5 K ball in his first start of the year.

Fitting weather for Detroit after hearing the news yesterday. Go Tigers.

If they don’t play would they just skip Porcello?
Not the worst thing in the world in my opinion.

Rain Delay, sounds like they are going to try and squeeze it in between the bands of showers. Here’s the lineup, IF they play:

    Granderson, CF
    Polanco, 2B
    Ordonez, RF
    Cabrera, 1B
    Guillen, DH
    Thames, LF
    Laird, C
    Inge, 3B
    Everett, SS

Looks like it’s been officially called off. No word on how the makeup will work. They play the Sox a billion times, so I imagine it will be later in the year.

MLB has it as PPD now.

Chris: I’d imagine a DH tomorrow since the Tigers have Friday off. Depends on CWS schedule though.

I doubt there will be a double header tomorrow. They will get a better box office draw after Memorial day anyway. Most likely they skip Porcello.

Looks like the only common open days for both teams are April 30th and June 15th, but the June date would be in the midst of interleague play. Other than that they would have to play a doubleheader when the Sox are here July 24-26 or Oct 2-4.

One good thing about this rainout is that it looks like it gives the Tiger’s a chance to reset their rotation, meaning that Miner won’t get another start before late next week. It also possibly means that the Tigers will avoid Danks in this series.

Yeah, I’m more relieved about missing Danks than any of the stuff concerning our rotation.

Meanwhile, the Tribe are losing again!

Why would you be excited about missing Danks? Granted he IS a good young pitcher, but… He has a 6.75 ERA at CoPa, is a lefty

Cabby is 3 for 10 against him, Ordonez is 10 for 17 (with 3 doubles and a hr), Laird is 2 for 3 (with a double), Guillen is 4 for 9 (with a double) and Inge is 4 for 10 (with a hr).
