Farnsworth speculation

There is an interesting post on the Atlanta Journal Constitutions Braves blog today. The bulk of the post is about Rafael Furcal’s likely destination (unfortunately probably not Detroit), but it also mentioned Kyle Farnsworth.

“Regarding the Braves? other biggest-name free agent, Kyle Farnsworth: The Braves are interested in keeping him, but only if he?s affordable. His last team before Atlanta, the Detroit Tigers, might be the only team willing to give Farnsworth anything close to what he hopes to get, because not many teams seem to be looking at him as a closer; rather, they see him as a setup guy and possible closer.

  1. I would love to see them bring back Farnsworth for that kind of money. I just wonder if he’d want to leave Georgia for more money now that he’s there. A million dollars a year extra may make something like that seem plausible though.

  2. I liked Farns while he was in Detroit. That’d be good bang for our buck.

also, Happy b-day to Willie Hernandez.

  3. Living in South Bend, I got to see a lot of Farnsworth when he was with the Cubs. His history is to blow up in pressure situations. We do not need another guy to throw fuel on the fire.

Speaking of throwing fuel on the fire, what do you make of the Uggie Urbina arrest?

  4. I agree; it’s a good move for the money. And call me a slappy, but I’m still not convinced Rodney isn’t good enough to be the closer.

It’s easy to say now, but I had a feeling this could happen when Farnsworth was traded. He seemed to like it here, but felt he had to take a shot at free agency (and playing for his hometown team). And Dombrowski had to get something, in case Farnsworth bolted, but seemed to value him as a closer.

  5. One of the highlights of my trip to Comerica this year was sitting 2nd row LF and watching Farnsworth get loose. Wow. Count me among those who would love this move. What’s Percival’s prognosis?

  6. The Farns! Pleeeeeaaaase Dombrowski, make it so.

I’m really not that surprised that Pudge turned out to be one of the better baserunners on the team. You could see it during the year… he had an extra burst of speed on him that he hadn’t had the year before. That offseason regimine wasn’t such fluff after all, eh, national media? EH?
