It’s times like this that I really love baseball. When my team is winning, and things are clicking. The defense is solid, the pitching is dependable, and the offense is doing enough. Today the offense responded when they needed to. When the Rangers started the game with a first inning run, Clete Thomas answered with a shrubbery shot. When the Rangers tied the game, the Tigers responded with a two out rally to take the lead in the subsequent inning. The result was a 6 game winning streak.
And the 3 game win streak is over. It was one of those games. Armando Galarraga wasn’t good again. He couldn’t find the strike zone consistently and when he did the pitches got hammered. The outs were well hit, the hits were well hit. The Twins hit 3 balls with home run distance but Clete Thomas brought one back.
Detroit Tigers: 36-28, 1st Place (4.5 ahead of Cleveland). Well the Tigers had a much-needed day off to shake off their latest one-run loss (their 11th), a 2nd consecutive Valverde home run derby which even had manager Jim Leyland playing hot potato. When Leyland says “who the (expletive) should I close with?” he does have … Continue reading Game 2013.65: Tigers at Twins→
5-2, 1st place, .5 games up on CWS. Here’s a random Fox News article about how great the Tigers are. Also – this just broke, Clete Thomas has been claimed by the Twinkies. Adam Wilk makes his big league starting debut this afternoon a little ahead of schedule as he fills in for Doug Fister. … Continue reading Game 2012.8: Tigers at White Sox→
Well, it was fun while it lasted, but the perfect season is ruined. Now back to our regularly scheduled baseball season. Not that there weren’t any positives to be found yesterday. Justin Verlander pitched 8 innings of the best baseball seen in these parts for a while. He also, and I quote Elias, was the … Continue reading Game 2012.6: Rays at Tigers→
The Tigers are still hot, even in the snow. Porcello said cold weather be damned, and pitched a gem, marred only by 3rd inning control problems. Austin Jackson continued to excel, provided power and patience, raising his SLG to 1.000 and his OBP to .650 in the process. Non-obvious play of the game: with no … Continue reading Game 2102.5: Rays at Tigers→
Note: The Sunday game has been postponed, and will now be played (presumably) Monday at 4:19 EST, because 4:15 is just too early and 4:30 is just too darn late. **Breaking News** Magglio is out for the rest of the postseason. He refractured the ankle he broke last season, when or how is unclear (he … Continue reading Game 2011 Playoffs.7: Tigers at Rangers→
