Let’s be honest. Justin Verlander was awful last year. His ace title has been removed across baseball, and I don’t think there is anyone in Detroit who thinks he’s the best pitcher on the staff right now. He definitely wasn’t worth $20M last year, and we certainly don’t want Verlander’s contract to anchor a ship … Continue reading Charting the Rest of Justin Verlander’s Career→
Vote is coming out today at 2pm, and MLB.tv will have live coverage beginning at 1:30pm eastern. Rob Neyer would vote Jacob Ellsbury #1 and JV 5th. (When did Neyer move to SBNation from ESPN.com? When did SBNation become a legitimate sports news source?) Buster Olney writes that JV will get the most first place … Continue reading Justin Verlander for (edit: IS) MVP→
Justin Verlander has turned in 3 remarkable outings in a row amassing 31 strike outs as hitters can’t catch up with his heater or their knees buckle with the curve. But very quietly Verlander has added a slider to his repertoire.
The Tigers and Justin Verlander have agreed to terms on a one year deal. I’ll update with terms when I find them. And the streak of not going to arbitration continues for Dombrowski. UPDATE: It’s 3.675 million. A couple hundred thousand less than I thought. Also know that this doesn’t prevent a longer term deal … Continue reading Tigers agree to terms with Justin Verlander→
Justin Verlander, the young stud pitcher and AL Rookie of the Year winner in 2006 was anointed ace of the Detroit staff and named the Opening Day starter. However with a 6.43 ERA and only one win he’s been anything but an ace. Early on there were concerns when his fastball lost velocity. He changed … Continue reading Justin Verlander in 150 words or less→
Justin Verlander was named American League Player of the Week. He shares last weeks honor with Carl Crawford. Verlander allowed on run in 16 innings of work against the Royals and Indians. He’s the second Tiger to win the award this season. Chris Shelton won it the first week of the season when everything he … Continue reading Justin Verlander named Player of the Week→
With their first pick, the second overall the Tigers selected Justin Verlander. Verlander is 6-4 180lbs and can throw in the high 90’s. He has issues with his control, but a powerful arm nonetheless. Here is a story by BA about Verlander back in March.
After Verlander’s second start of the year I commented that JV seemed to be throwing his change-up more on crucial counts. It was not rooted in any scout-like acuity, but just a casual observation from a guy who watches too much Tigers baseball much like you do. My recollection is that JV primarily has relied on … Continue reading Verlander’s No-Hitter→
When Jim Leyland said he was going to put Justin Verlander on a strict, but undisclosed pitch count today, who thought it would be 120? It probably is a few more than Jim would have liked, but when you have a pitcher as in control as Verlander was today, 120 doesn’t seem to be a stretch at all.
A journey through some links that will update us on the Tigers walking wounded, that will put limits on Justin Verlander’s workload, and other odds and ends including bullpen usage and Alex Avila.
It appears that Justin Verlander seems to have found some of that rhythm that had proven so elusive this season. Unfortunately the Tigers bats couldn’t muster enough against Ryan Rowland-Smith and the Tigers dropped their 3rd game in a row.
The Detroit Tigers and Justin Verlander have agreed to a 5 year contract worth $80 million according to Larry Lage of the AP. Verlander was at the Tigers Lakeland facility working out earlier today. The deal locks up the ace until the 2014 season and it bests the 5 year $78 million deal that Felix Hernandez received earlier this month.
