Game 2016.119: Royals at Tigers

Tough loss last night, sometimes the other pitcher is just better.

JV on the mound tonight. Miggy with a biceps injury…things are getting lean. We really need Upton to hit for a bit.

3. DH Victor Martinez

4. RF J.D. Martinez

5. LF Justin Upton

6. C James McCann

    1. Aybar is a SS which makes me wonder if Iggy will be out longer than we thought.

  1. Upton batting .140 in August, 50 AB’s only 7 hits, all singles.

No time like the present for him to step it up

    1. i agree!

… a month ago it seemed as if he might be on the brink of figuring things out – and being the .275 hitter DET hoped they were paying for, but then he’s tanked thus far in Aug

  2. in that 5th inning, another HR and 23 pitches out of JV’s tank

…meanwhile, DET hitters made Duffy throw 5 pitches total (to get 3 outs) in his 4th

…its the little things – KC still does them, and DET still doesn’t

  3. Thinking about what Norman said abut the little things. KC is having an awful year and they still seem to have the fundamentals down pat. Does that say anything about the coaching staffs of the two ball clubs?

I am now on board with Jud abut J-Up. He just doesn’t seem to be making any adjustments of any kind at the plate .

    1. Did you listen to the Brad show before the game as they talked about him having a “talk” with J-Up to get him turned around. Apparently Brad did such with Castellanos and look what happened?!

  4. JUp now 1/100000..with 0 rbi in a frickin month..
Kinsler Picked off for the 10000 time
Rondon lowers his ERA by getting bombed
1 whole run in 2 days on O..
A lineup with 6 automatic outs in it!
…this team is a joke..led by the Joker!

  5. Given we presently have four out of nine position players hurt, I am not very optimistic on our team playing above .500 for the rest of August. This position player void is compounded by having three talented rookies on the starting pitching staff. While rookie talented, it does makes me feel there will be lots of variability with their pitching success (not that Sanchez will have success every outing too!) that can’t be backed up or covered by strong bats, base running, or good ole defense. Unfortunately I greatly fear we are seeing the collapse of the 2016 season.

BTW while in Texas, I didn’t see one fan wearing a number 8 Upton jersey!

Looks like Drew Sharp picked up on it too: http://www.freep.com/story/sports/2016/08/16/drew-sharp-detroit-tigers-playoffs/88882782/
