Well, here we are, all that early season winning has been squandered and we’re back where the season started, neither winners nor losers. Although that could change today, facing a tough pitcher and a Yankee team that’s as hot as Detroit is cold.
After the game Victor Martinez stated the obvious: “If we keep playing like this, we’re going nowhere.” One thing the team definitely has been missing is Victor’s leadership and focus, and hopefully his return will help in that respect. I don’t expect much help from his bat in the near future: before his DL stint he was the worst left-handed hitter on the team, and it’s unlikely that he will be instantly better in that respect. So for the short-term, we are likely to actually have a drop off in production from DH and the cleanup spot.
As far as Brad Ausmus goes, he held a team meeting after last night’s game, but no word on what was said or the tone of the meeting.

Castellanos: .217 BA 63K’s in 235 AB, and his .594 OPS is the lowest on the team
it likely won’t happen, but I believe giving NC a week or so of AB’s in Toledo might help him and DET. DET has him protected until ’19, so I doubt he’s going anywhere – so they better help him find his stroke.
against CLE this year, NC is hitting .125 w/14K’s in 32 AB…that’s almost one every other AB – so that likely factored into Ausmus’ decision
