Game 2015.69: Tigers at Yankees

Well, here we are, all that early season winning has been squandered and we’re back where the season started, neither winners nor losers. Although that could change today, facing a tough pitcher and a Yankee team that’s as hot as Detroit is cold.

After the game Victor Martinez stated the obvious: “If we keep playing like this, we’re going nowhere.” One thing the team definitely has been missing is Victor’s leadership and focus, and hopefully his return will help in that respect. I don’t expect much help from his bat in the near future: before his DL stint he was the worst left-handed hitter on the team, and it’s unlikely that he will be instantly better in that respect. So for the short-term, we are likely to actually have a drop off in production from DH and the cleanup spot.

As far as Brad Ausmus goes, he held a team meeting after last night’s game, but no word on what was said or the tone of the meeting.

Tonight’s In Lettuce We Trust Lineup:

  1. Rajai Davis, CF
  2. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. Yoenis Cespedes, LF
  6. JD Martinez, RF
  7. Bryan Holaday, C
  8. Andrew Romine, 3B
  9. Jose Iglesias, SS

Another start for Romine. They must be saving Josh Wilson for the bullpen.

  1. A good start with the Martinezes backing up their leadership statements.

  2. am i the only one that feels that 6 runs today won’t be enough to win this game?

  3. Just the fact that there’s no Casty and no McCann today is amazing enough for Ausmus to pull off…

  4. The good news is its a win…the bad news is of course, its a weeks worth if runs, meaning the Tigers WILL, average this out to 3.5….soon!….and finally why can’t this be done in a night games also????

  5. Looks like Castellanos has earned (and yes he earned it) a doghouse with his name on it. Romine is starting again tonight.

    1. good move – Romine is a superior fielder to NC and this year a superior hitter also.

Castellanos: .217 BA 63K’s in 235 AB, and his .594 OPS is the lowest on the team

it likely won’t happen, but I believe giving NC a week or so of AB’s in Toledo might help him and DET. DET has him protected until ’19, so I doubt he’s going anywhere – so they better help him find his stroke.

      1. against CLE this year, NC is hitting .125 w/14K’s in 32 AB…that’s almost one every other AB – so that likely factored into Ausmus’ decision

  6. Holiday vs McCann getting in the NC ..Romine conversation. Holiday drives in runs McCann does not!!!

  7. I think Kevin’s still in a rain delay. I hope Brad keeps riding The Lettuce until he gets cold.

    1. Wait, lettuce is supposed to be cold. I hope Brad keeps riding The Lettuce until he gets wilty.
