Game 2017.10: Tigers at Indians

There were some good things about yesterday’s game—the middle of the lineup showed up, with long balls from Cabrera and Upton, and Jimenez had a good debut out of the bullpen (and is now back in Toledo). Then there was Anibal Sanchez, who for some reason was brought in in a crucial situation to replace Zimmermann, and who made all future game situations, well, non-crucial. What to do? It seems like their choices are to dump Sanchez and pay him, or pay him and use him as a human surrender flag. Or, I suppose, fix whatever is wrong, but that is looking less and less likely.

Today the Tigers start a series in Cleveland that is being called critical, which is sort of silly at this point in the season. But then again, after what happened against Cleveland last season…a series win would sure be nice and help us all forget last year.

Today’s Announced Way Early Lineup:

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. Justin Upton, LF
  6. Tyler Collins, RF
  7. Alex Avila, C
  8. JaCoby Jones, CF
  9. Jose Iglesias, SS

Pitching: Daniel Norris vs Trevor Bauer

Alex Avila? Well hey he is batting .600 so far this year, so there’s that.

The lineups used to be announced about an hour before game time; this year they have come out much sooner than that—today’s at about 2:45. I wonder if this is a MLB thing, or a Tigers thing, or a media thing. Are they submitting them sooner, or publishing them sooner. It makes putting up the posts much easier though.

  1. Everyday and The Boss’ Son both have good numbers against Bauer. Meanwhile good points about Sanchez. Like LBJ said “you can’t polish manure!” And Austin Jackson in CF for the Tribe.

  2. Here’s how strange Indians Vs Tigers lately.. Runners on 1 and 2..2 out and Bauer throws 7 straight pitches out of the strike zone to Kinsler.. Results. K!!!!

  3. Bauer now has 5K.. Thru 4..not one of the strike threes was in the strike zone…. Or actually near it.
    Swing Batter Batter Batter.. Swing….
Hopefully Norris keeps up his fine work so far!..

  5. Someone named Cueves is here as a long man.. But Brilliant Brad throws him in the 9th inning.. You tell me Jimenez couldn’t pitch today…. Oh that’s right relievers aren’t allowed to pitch two whole days in a row with Brilliant Brad… You know one of the biggest reasons the Tigers pen is so bad…. Easy answer.. Brad Ausmus!

    1. Yes Tony KRoid “earns a save” for…that mess…partially created by cuevas

      Sad

A W is a W, especially against CLE, even that one

  6. Well if JV can pitch 9 scoreless innings tomorrow, we’ll have a shot. I don’t think F-Rod will survive this season as our closer.

  7. Hey Brad how bout Cueves in the 7th then he has time to go back to selling hot dogs.. Then you have The two Willie’s…. Oh no use up the two Willie’s, who you basically rely on.. THEN put in the hot dog vendor… Please help us get thru this baseball god’s!!!!! =

  8. Jud- Are you sure that Cuevas was selling hot dogs? I’m thinking BEER! Can you hear it? ” get your Cervazas from Cuevas”?

  9. i know its VERY early in the season, but the talent laden CLE Indians starting pitchers are 1-6 thus far, with an AL-worst 6.58 ERA…just sayin

…unfortunately for DET, their bullpen also boasts some scary stats

    1. Thanks Ole Miss, Pat used the one word that sums it up perfectly: ABSURD! I think F-Rod is super suspect as the closer so far. If Jimenez were here, and continued to throw strikes, he could be the new closer in training.
