Game 2015.107: Royals at Tigers

“I respect that when you own the team you can run it however you like.” Thus David Dombrowski finally spoke to the media about his departure, and made it clear that it was a firing and and not a resignation or mutual parting. I imagine we haven’t heard the last of the saga yet.

Here is Jason Beck’s interview with Dave Dombrowski, and here is a look back at the major moves of the Dombrowski era.

Speaking of resignation, I’m resigned to watching a bit of a lopsided contest tonight, as the Royals send their newly-acquired ace Johnny Cueto out to face the Tigers’ newly-acquired…well, he’s newly-acquired, that’s about what we know about Matt Boyd. He got shelled (as in 14.85 ERA, 2.400 WHIP) in 2 starts with the Blue Jays, but has solid minor league stats–1.65 ERA and 0.855 WHIP in AA/AAA, where his 4-1 strikeout to walk ratio catches the eye. Considering how good Norris looked, if Boyd has promise also we may look back on the Price trade as a huge steal.

Today’s Aw, C’mon Dad, Again? Lineup:

  1. Anthony Gose, CF
  2. Jose Iglesias, SS
  3. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. JD Martinez, RF
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  7. Tyler Collins, LF
  8. Jefrey Marte, 1B
  9. James McCann, C

Alex Avila has yet to play during the Al Avila Era.

  1. Marte should be fined, or at least chewed-out for that statue play at home plate. Kirk Gibson isn’t in the booth tonite, but would HE have stood there on that same roll? Whether that ball stays foul or rolls fair, running all-out down to first —–well, it’s little things like that that can make a bunch of dumb asses look like good players, or a bunch of good players look like dumb asses.
Like Jud often asks, isn’t anyone in Motown coaching this stuff?

  2. Victor in a horrible slump..takes strike one down the middle…takes strike 2 outer edge but a strike…then throws his bat at a pitch 6 inches outside and barely rolls out to second…Victor jogs, if u call going that slow towards first…who is coaching this crap!!!!

  3. Wait!…how come that runner on third didn’t break for home on that groundball, ….and get thrown out like the Tigers would have done!…..hmmmmm!

  4. Here comes the rookie hazing: “good job kid, Bruce Rondon can take it from here…”

  5. Lets see..Norris and Boyd for Price , also saving a potential $220 mil…..DD might have done it again,!……oh thats right you’re fired!……sorry!!!!!!

    1. Let’s be patient and analyse the trade at the end of the season. Remember that the Greene/Ray trade was looking great in April, and not so good now.

  6. I like Wilson, but I don’t like making a change here. Bringing in a cold arm so often not a good idea; hope it pans out this time.

  7. Rondon needs more time yet as we all know…BUT he has some serious stuff he throws up there besides 100…hope he continues to develop!..Wilsons been steady all year!

  8. Boyd gave up a bunch of hits, but they didn’t hurt him, because they were spread out, and…no walks.

    1. It was an impressive performance. Getting so the games I get excited about tuning into, are the ones the prospects, Norris, Boyd, are pitching. Not so much anymore Verlander, Sanchez, and what to speak of Simon…..

  9. Wilson and Hardy have been very reliable all year…. they rank in the top 10 relievers since May in ERA…yet they have hardly any saves or holds recorded, simply because Capt Smarty always uses his boys instead….and losses!

  10. NICE win by DET pitching staff – against a good offensive team – unfortunately DET haven’t had enough of those this year

  11. If anyone was worried about Johnny Cueto’s ability to transition to the American League after pitching in the Senior Circuit for the better part of eight season, he all but put those doubts to bed in his Royals debut.
