Game 2015.18: Indians at Tigers

Well, you’re not going to win them all, but winning once every 5 days would be nice. After sprinting out of the gates to start the season with the best record in the Majors, the Tigers have slipped into the 4th best overall record, and 1.5 games behind KC in the Central. I would like to point out that the Tigers lost 4 or more games in a row 3 times last year and once in 2013, so remember that it happens. It’s a long season.

Alfredo Simon looks to right the ship this afternoon against Trevor Bauer. Bauer has been nearly flawless so far this year, allowing only 2 ER and 8 hits in 18 IP. He’s struck out 26 in that time for an eye-popping 13 K/9.

  1. Game time temperature 48, should we forfeit (see Jud’s comment).

Seems like a good time for Simon to pitch a good game and right the ship. Then again, I had the misfortune of looking at Cleveland’s numbers against him: Bourn 4-for-6, Brantley 7-for-12 with 3 doubles, Murphy 3-for-6, so it may be another long day.

  2. Hey Smokey Jr. “What happened to your Gose vs righties and Davis vs lefties platoon you said you were going to play”?

    1. It looks like the scheduled Cleveland righty was scratched and was replaced by a lefty.

  3. Boy, is Casty poor defensively! We should have kept Travis and converted him to third and kept Davis as our full-time CF. It is a small sample size but I think the Blue Jays got the best of the Travis for Gose trade. We got a part-time CF and the Jays got a potential all-star. Travis is so far playing excellent baseball on the offense and defense!

    1. We knew the defense would be an issue, but he was supposed to develop into a 25 HR/100 RBI kind of hitter; so far I don’t see that happening.

      1. He chases too many bad pitches down and outside and his defensive range is horrible.

  4. Soria might just save us this year..This is what we are used to seeing from him….Unfortunately this is the Avila we are used to seeing. Can’t hit and can’t throw out base stealers ..oh well we are 50/50 on those two…we knew Casty couldn’t field, but we were fooled by the Tiger brass saying he was greatly improved. And where would this team be without Simon and Greene, which is the bright side!!
