Game 2013.70: Orioles at Tigers

blah. That’s my response to last night’s game. So blah that we’ll skip the regular format, and get a new fresh post up ASAP.

Yes, JV looks off, but as I discussed before, he’s actually been pretty good. Well, last night was bad, but I’m not worried.

I have faith in Ricky P to pitch us to victory. Four straight quality starts with a 1.33 ERA and .70 (not a typo) WHIP during that time. Orioles have a strong lineup, but Porcello has been pitching well.

Series winning lineup coming soon…

  1. before his 3-run HR Teagarden was batting a whopping .043, he had one single and 9 K’s in 23 AB’s this year… and a career .200 hitter …just sayin

  2. Well, this one is trending Blah-ish also, but some nice hitting by Tuiasosopo, and Infante (again). Leyland +1 for Pinch-hitting Tui for Kelly.

    1. yes Tuiasosopo making the most of his rare AB’s… if his fielding is the primary issue (why JL keeps him out of the lineup), I don’t understand why Tui is not DH’ing against lefties. VMart is batting .215 against lefties (.247 OBP), while Tui – .326 BA, .491 OBP. Seems like a no-brainer

      1. Well, I do have to see that Tui seems like a liability in the field, so that keeps him on the bench a lot. But, as you say, he would seem like a natural DH. Can’t see Leyland platooning Martinez though, or moving him down in the lineup, because he is Victor Martinez, and Victor Martinez bats 5th, and that is that.

      2. plus Tui has 17 RBI in 70 AB’s. I’m not suggesting platooning VMart at DH; on second thought, I am… until he starts hitting with any consistency anyway – or showing he can hit lefties. At a minimum drop VMart in the order to at least behind Peralta

        1. And what is with Dirks? Tuiasosopo may be more valuable in left, even with the subpar fielding and even against the R/L splits.

            1. I think Tuiasosopo is an average defender in LF, with a slightly above average arm. He’s no Dirks, but he ain’t Delmon Young. The defensive objection is a red herring. A chimera. A crock, not to put too fine a point on it.

The baserunning could use some work, though… it ain’t slowness all by its own self, but lack of savvy. Not for lack of enthusiasm. He’s 26. He can get better.

  3. The Tigers are so far away from the top teams in baseball. Its scary……Good thing they play in the AL Central is all I can say…….They don’t even have to run into great pitching….Average pitching will knock the Tigers out of the playoffs. This is a 3 run homer team without the Home run!

      1. I guess he is more the Human Placeholder, until they decide which of the Dotel/Alburquerque/Rondon guys they are going to bring up.

  4. I just saw that Jason Beck mentioned his season best streak on Beat the Streak is 5 games. I feel better now!

  5. talk about a total lack of confidence in valverde bring him in when game already out of reach then he still comes in and sucks a homerun and 3 singles in 14 or 15 pitches when are they going to give him a one way ticket out of town

    1. Good call. I’m with you. Don’t tell anyone, but I was hoping for even more Orioles runs in the 9th. No lie.

  6. major blah game, but I always have felt losing, if you have to, is easier to stomach if it is a blowout as opposed to a 1 run loss. Had high hopes there would be a series win here, but life, and the season go on. I look forward to reading some more non blah stuff,Shorty and I are heading to Seattle for my annual visit with the nice folks at UWMC who saved my life nine years ago, and ball games and brunch with my favorite RHP, my youngest bro, (don’t call me Joey!) Joe.
