Game 2012.3: Red Sox at Tigers

2-0, 1st place, 1 game up over Chi and KC

We’re only two games into the season, and the Tigers have already played what could be their most complete game of the season. After Doug Fister left with a strained left side (it’s is costochondral muscle if you must know) min the 4th, the bullpen came in and shut-out the Red Sox over 5 1/3, allowing only 4 hits and a walk while striking out 8. Only one runner advanced to 2nd during that stretch – Ryan Sweeney in the 7th via defensive indifference.

And then there were a few HRs. All told the offense had 12 hits, 6 of them for extra bases, and had runners on base in every inning except for the 2nd.

The Tigers go for the series sweep today behind Max Scherzer. Mad Max only faced the Red Sox once last year, and the result was his worst outing of the season when he allowed 7 ER in 2 IP. Buchholz looks to plug the dam for the Red Sox.

  1. That actually didn’t look like too bad of a throw by AJax. If Avila catches that in front of the plate I think we get Sweeney.

  2. 2 2/3, 81 pitches, 7 ER. Good chance that’s his worst outing of the year.

    Gonna be a wild one.

  3. Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.

    This team can rake!

  4. unfreakin believable!

now i know what Yankee and Red Sox fans have felt over the past 8-10 years… with an offense like this, there’s always a chance for a comeback.

  5. With the score 9-7 in the 8th, I had to take off and didn’t get back home until the game was long over. I missed all the fun! I had a feeling they would come back, but not like this! These guys could be real monsters.

    1. And a guy who wasn’t on the roster as they broke camp is now 2-0 after three games!

      1. After the 4th inninngm I was off too on Easter duty. I did listen to the 11th from my car. That’s a game we should of lost. We’ll take it!

  6. Last year the Tigers didn’t win their 3rd game until the 7th tilt, and then proceeded to lose three in a row before getting on a winning track, so started the season 3-7.

    1. On the other hand, 2010 was the year they had all those crazy late inning come from behind wins early in the season and then…..
