Game 53: Tigers at Indians

PREGAME: C.C. Sabathia and Justin Verlander will have a rematch from last Saturday’s Tigers loss. It’s the first of a 4 game series that is kinda important.
The Tigers had some chances against Sabathia, but couldn’t cash enough in.
The Tigers roster is one or two injuries away from being held [...]

Magglio Ordonez is on top of the AL in pretty much every category. With him starting slow for the first 2 weeks of the season, I figured that he had put up such gaudy numbers since that he’d be a shoo-in for AL player of the month numbers. Using the day by day [...]

Toledo 7 Scranton 0
Jordan Tata is back. He made the start tonight, and it was a short one as they build his arm strength up, but by all accounts successful. He went 3 innings and threw 34 pitches and allowed only a walk with no strikeouts. Ron Chiavacci “started” the back end [...]

in 2007 Season, Injuries

Carlos Guillen is now day to day with a groin strain. He left tonight’s game and the Tigers will now be relying on Neifi Perez and Omar Infante to man the left side of the infield.

Game 52: Tigers at Rays

PREGAME: The Tigers will try and take the series against the Rays. But to do so they’ll have to find success off a good pitcher. And it’s not Scott Kazimir. I know, it’s weird.
I must confess, I didn’t know anything about James Shields until I went to type this up. [...]

Just heard on WDFN that Brandon Inge broke his toe when he was hit by a pitch last night. Fortunately he’s only supposed to miss a couple games. Omar Infante will play in his place tonight

TIGERS CORNER: Robertson adjusts his delivery
Hopefully it works. Nate has struggled his last few times out.

Bullpen isn’t only problem for Tigers
Henning says the Tigers have to have more production from first, even if Sean Casey is a nice guy. Even the traditional stats point out Casey’s flaws. RBI is a flawed stat, [...]

Game 51: Tigers at Rays

by billfer on May 29, 2007 · 28 comments

in 2007 Season, Game Post

PREGAME: Minimalist post this time. Family obligations have kept me from writing the past few days. Today is me and Mrs. Billfer’s anniversary, so I won’t be witnessing the game, commenting on it, or writing about it after the fact. Probably not minor league wrap tonight either. Sorry bout that, [...]

Toledo 0 Scranton 2
Some guy named Roger Clemens started this one and held the offense to 2 hits. The Hens only amassed 3 total. Cory Hamman started and allowed only 1 run on 6 hits over 6 innings
Erie 5 Akron 4
Kody Kirkland homered and added a single. Erick Almonte also had 2 [...]

Game 50: Tigers at Rays

by billfer on May 28, 2007 · 96 comments

in 2007 Season, Game Post

PREGAME: The Tigers head to Tampa to try and heal from a home sweep at the hands of the Indians. The Devil Rays have a history of helping teams heal, however they aren’t the pushover they once were, at least offensively where they rank in the middle of the AL in runs scored. [...]

Columbus 5 Toledo 14
No shortage of offense for the Mud Hens with Ryan Raburn leading the way. He hit for the cycle. Mike Hessman nearly matched him but was a single short. David Espinosa hit his 2nd homer of the year and Chris Shelton added two hits and a walk. Yorman [...]
