Dmitri Young to Betty Ford

There are reports circulating that Dmitri Young has checked himself into the Betty Ford Clinic. This is certainly sad and disappointing news. Between the injuries of the last couple years, the domestic violence charge, and this news, Young’s Tiger career has certainly taken a wrong turn. At this point I’d be surprised if we saw him in the Olde English D again.

Young is making $8 million this year. I wonder if the Tigers can recoup any of that due to the nature of this illness, or through insurance.

  1. Maybe I’m just an eternal optimist, but I see this as a good thing. It was obvious that he had some sort of problem. This shows that he’s being an adult and trying to handle it. I wish him well.

  2. I think we should just trade Dmitri Young. He hasn’t done that much for the Tigers this year anyway. I understand injuries but, come on how long do we hang on to a guy who is not performing in a manner that would warrant the money he is making? The Tigers have shown that they don’t really need him. He may be a better fit somewhere else.

  3. Who do you trade him to? Every other team out there sees the same things we see. Who’s going to take a shot on him with the kind of season he’s having at 8 million dollars? Nobody. Not one team will take a shot on him as things are currently.

On the other side of things, I definitely wish Dmitri well and it’s good to see him taking the initiative to get things right in his life. This hurts, as I’ve been a big fan of Dmitri. It seems like it’s just one thing on top of another. Have to just end it like Jeff M, wishing him well and hoping for the best for Dmitri in the real world.

  4. I wish him the best in his recovery.

From the practical side of things – how long are we on the hook for Dmitri? Was this the last year of his bloated contract? Gosh, I hope so.

We sure could use that $8 mil for a big left-handed bat in the lineup.

  5. Why is everyone so mean to poor Dmitri???
OK, so he may not be the 2006 MVP or anything, but it takes a REAL MAN to do what hes doing and try to get some help. I think you meanies should lighten up and stop being so hard on him.
After all, he is basically a huge pimp.
    I love you Dmitri.
    You’re my boy.

  6. I don’t think anyone has been mean to Dmitri, and everybody wishes him the best. I just don’t think this is the time to congratulate him for anything. Yes, I’m happy he’s getting the help he needs, and I know it is a disease. But at the same time he has also let down his team, his teammates, and his fans. I’m not sure now is the time to break out what kind of a man he is.

I wish him the best, and hope he can get his life back on track. I’m just not going to glorify him.
