Gammons previews the Central

In Peter Gammons preview of the AL central he says:

Trammell and his staff inherited a mess, a team that was undisciplined on and off the field. He, Kirk Gibson and the rest of the coaches insisted that the players had to be professional and responsible, and one year later the values of the Sparky Anderson-Bill Lajoie Tigers have been instilled.

Now if only they had the wins as well as the values…

  1. I believe most of the “return to values” spin we have gotten since Tram was hired, but I have to wonder why, with their recent history of off-field altercations, the Tigers would sign Mike DeFelice.

I found an article on-line the other day that described an ugly incident at an Arizona strip club in which DeFelice not only scrapped with bouncers, but also decked a woman inside the club and tried to go back for more.

Granted, it was almost three years ago. But it’s not like it was some youthful indiscretion, either.

  2. Right on. The Tigers will be the fifth team in the last four season for Defelice. Sure backup catchers move around but it kind of speaks to your point. Further I would hope that Detroit could acquire a younger backstop to learn the ropes from Pudge.

  3. Thanks for thhe Difelice info. I didn’t know that he had “character” issues.

And JW, my buddies and I went to PNC last year and a couple bars (no strip clubs). I can’t speak for the city as a whole, but where we were it was actually quite impressive.
