Tigers housing rally kitten

Maybe Matt Joyce found a good luck charm in the Tigers batting cage in the form of a kitten.

Tigers outfielder Matt Joyce, hearing the tiny black cat whimper, climbed up on a stool and, with batting gloves on to protect his hands, pulled the animal down, before carrying it up the stairs into the clubhouse.

The kitten was last seen being fed milk in a bowl by Joyce in the Tigers clubhouse kitchen.

The report doesn’t mention a lot:

  1. What did they name the cat?
  2. Was it a black cat and is it in fact bad luck? How long had it been in the batting cage and is it in anyway responsible for for Edgar Renteria’s slump?
  3. Who gets to clean out the litter box?
  4. Will Joyce take the cat on road trips?
  5. Where will it live? Perhaps someone can make a bed out of a pillow in Brandon Inge’s locker?
  6. How the hell did a cat get in the batting cage?

  2. Re #3, I suspect a batboy will become the cat boy.

I do hope they keep the kitty, it surely is an appropriate clubhouse mascot.

  3. Well why not, gum time seems to have used up its magic.

Hopefully it is a black and orange tabby and they can call it “Tiger”.

  4. Someone tell them not to feed the cat cow milk. most of them are lactose intolerant and need to be fed a special kitty formula milk that is 98% lactose free and can be found in most pet stores. It’s called KML kitty powder; mix with water. Someone get on the horn quickly and call the Tiger club house. This kitty is definitely a good luck charm! It must be brought with the Tigers on all road trips. This is what Tiger fans have been waiting for; a good luck charm – that black cat bad luck stuff is all hogwash. I’ve had 2 black cats and I’m the luckiest guy in the world. Hurry…someone get on the horn!

  5. Just keep the cat away from Miguel. I’m pretty sure that Santerians (sp?) only sacrifice animals that are later eaten, but why take the chance.

  6. Pretty sure they went the rescue league route. Which is too bad, ’cause a clubhouse cat would have been amazing, even if it made Verlander all sneezy.

  7. I remember a cat (grown) at camp in Lakeland in the Curtis Granderson spring training video posted here way back when.

  8. Bilfer, if possible, give us a kitty update. Go cats go.

  9. I note that Matt Joyce did nothing to protect his oblique while climbing up on the stool.

  10. The weird thing is that the kitten somehow pulled its oblique while being rescued. And developed knee tendinitis.

  11. wait, so in this story there is a black cat crossing a ladder? And it’s not even Halloween.

I love that Miggy kept his distance. He was probably busy with the three candy bars in his locker (not made up… check out the ESPN recap)

  12. “It doesn’t matter to me,” Cabrera said quietly of the attention, before turning toward the intriguing contents of his locker, including Voodoo dolls watching over three unwrapped candy bars. (mlive article)

Clearly, the THREE candy bars are the good luck charms.

  13. “Clearly, the THREE candy bars are the good luck charms.”

Clearly, the SEVEN candy bars had been the good luck charms.

Note that the precise number of voodoo watchdolls was unspecified.
