  • Tigers Minor League Wrap – August 22nd

    Toledo 10, Columbus 5
    Ryan Ludwick hit his 24th and 25th homers. Chris Shelton was 1 for 4 with a walk and 2 strike outs. John Ennis started and allowed 4 unearned runs in 3 innings.

    Trenton 5, Erie 4
    Chris Maples and Kelly Hunt each had 2 hit games. Nate Bumstead took the loss and allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, on 5 hits, 5 walks and 7 K’s in 5 2/3 innings.

    Lakeland 5, Erie 3
    Jeff Larish and Brent Dlugach each had 2 hits. Clete Thomas knocked in 3 with a double and stole home. Eddie Bonine allowed only 2 runs on 2 solo homers over 8 innings. Kevin Whelan surrendered a run on 2 hits and 2 walks but secured the save with 2 K’s.

    West Michigan – DNP

    Lowell 4, Oneonta 2
    Scott Sizemore, Jeff Kunkel, Brennan Boesch and Deik Scram all had 2 hits. Lauren Gagnier allowed only 4 baserunners and 1 run over 5 innings. Casey Fien allowed 3 runs over 3 innings.

    Randor Bierd was chased after 3 innings. He allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks.

    Audy Ciriaco was 2 for 5 with a triple. Gorkys Hernandez went 1 for 4. Alfredo Figaro took the loss allowing 2 runs in 1 2/3 innings.Tiger

  • Tigers Minor League Wrap – August 21st

    Columbus 3, Toledo 2
    Alexis Gomez hit his 11th homer for the Mud Hens and reallly seems to have found his power stroke. Chris Shelton was 0 for 4 with 2 K’s. Corey Hamman started and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits and 6 walks while fanning 6 in 6 1/3 innings.

    Trenton 7, Erie 6
    Don Kelly, Victor Mendez and Chris Maples had 2 hits each while Kelly Hunt homered. Jon connolly allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, including 2 homers, over 6 innings.

    Dunedin 7, Lakeland 1
    Kyle Sleeth started but didn’t make it out of the first inning as he surrendered 4 hits, 2 walks and 4 runs. Jeff larish was 1 for 4 with a double.

    West Michigan 3, Lansing 1
    Justin Justice knocked in all 3 runs with a 1st inning homer. Cameron Maybin was 1 for 3 with a walk. Burke Badenhop pitched 6 innings and allowed 1 run on 6 hits, no walks, and 6 K’s. Anthony Claggett picked up his 9th save with a scoreless 9th.

    Oneonta 10, Vermont 0
    Ronnie Bourquin homered as part of a 2 for 4, 1 walk day. Ryan Strieby and Scott Sizemore each had 2 hits as well. Lou Ott went 3 for 4 and drove in 4. Tom Thornton pitched 7 shut out innings scattering 5 hits and fanning 8.

    GCL Tigers 3, GCL Yankees 2
    Chris Carlson hit his 11th homer among his 3 hits and Gorkys Hernandez was 2 for 4. At 22, Carlson is old for the league, but his 11 home runs are first, his batting average is 9th, and his OPS is tops. Duane Below allowed 1 hit and 1 unearned run over 8 innings of work.

  • Tigers Minor League Wrap – August 20th (Andrew Miller debuts)

    Columbus 5, Toledo 2
    Chris Shelton was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and his hit was a triple. He has pushed his average to 307. Chad Durbin took the loss as he surrenderd 5 runs, 4 earned, over 5 1/3 innings.

    Erie 1, Connecticut 0
    Victor Mendez was 2 for 4 and picked up the lone RBI. Jair Jurrgens pitched 7 innings and allowed only 4 hits against 5 K’s.

    Lakeland 5, Fort Myers 3
    Andrew Miller made his pro debut. He faced 4 batters, hit one, and fanned 2 in a scoreless inning of work. Jeff Frazier was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles.

    Fort Myers 4, Lakeland 3
    Eleazar Aponte pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks. Juan Francia and Gil Meija each had 2 hits.

    Lansing 9, West Michigan 3
    Jeremy Laster was 2 for 2 with 2 walks and hit a homer. Cameron Maybin was 1 for 4.

    Vermont 8, Oneonta 5
    Scott Sizemore had 2 doubles and a walk. Ronnie Bourqin added 2 hits. Louis Ott was 3 for 4. Zach Piccola was roughed up for 8 runs on 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Tim Robertson came on in relief and pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed only 1 walk and no hits.

    GCL Tigers 9, GCL Braves 5
    Chris Carlson was 2 for 5 with a homer. Gorkys Hernandez went 2 for 5. Eric Beattie who had a couple promising starts battled his control again today with 4 walks in 3 1/3 innings.

  • Tigers Minor League Wrap August 19th

    Toledo 20, Columbus 2
    Pretty much everybody had a good game offensively with the Mud Hens knocking out 25 hits. Chris Shelton had 4, including a homer and he added a walk. Mike Rabelo added a grand slam. Mike Maroth went 6 innings on 85 pitches. He allowed one hit, which was a homer, no walks and he fanned 3.

    Erie 7, Connecticut 0
    Kelly Hunt had 3 hits including a homer and Kurt Airoso added 3 hits. Eulogio De La Cruz fanned 7 over 7 scoreless innings.

    Lansing 4, West Michigan 0
    Mike Hollimon picked up the Caps only extra base hit. Cameron Maybin was 0 for 4. Erik Averill allowed 3 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings.

    Oneonta 3, Batavia 2
    Ronnie Bourquin had 2 hits. Christian Martinez pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks while fanning 6. Derek Witt pitched 2 scoreless innings before Brett Jensen pitched a scoreless 9th.

  • Tigers Minor League Wrap – August 18th

    Toledo 5, Richmond 3
    Jordan Tata probably had his best Toledo start. He allowed only 3 hits, 2 walks, and 1 run while fanning 3 over 8 innings. Ryan Ludwick had 2 homers as part of a 3 hit night. Chris Shelton was 2 for 4.

    Erie 3, Connecticut 2
    Victor Mendez, who is on his 4th organizational team this season, homered and singled. Kurt Airoso also homered. Virgil Vasquez pitched a complete game allowing 2 runs while scatterring 9 hits.

    Lakeland 4, Fort Myers 2
    Jeff Larish had 2 hits and a walk. Dallas Trahern allowed 1 unearned run over 5 innings. Jeremy Johnson pitched 3 innings of relief allowing 1 run.

    West Michigan 5, Lansing 4
    Cameron Maybin tripled and Justin Justice had 2 hits. Virgil Vasquez started and allowed 2 runs on 4 walks and 7 hits over 5 innings. Orlando Perdomo faced 2 batters in the 9th and didn’t record either while being charged with 2 runs.

    Batavia 3, Oneonta 1
    Ryan Strieby and Deik Scram had 2 hits. Brendan Wise pitched 7 innings allowing 3 runs.
    GCL Tigers 6, GCL Indians 5
    Chris Carlson was 3 for 3 with a walk. Gorkys Hernandez picked up another 0 for 5 and might be in a bit of a slump.

    Toledo 3, Richmond 2 (12 innings)
    Ryan Ludwick had 3 hits to provide the bulk of the offense. Chris Shelton doubled and walked. Colby Lewis pitched 9 innings and allowed only 1 run on 4 hits.

    New Britain 12, Erie 4
    Jackson Melian homered and doubled. Nate Bumstead was rocked for 8 runs, 7 earned, on 9 hits and 4 walks in 3 2/3 innings.

    Palm Beach 7, Lakeland 6
    Clete Thomas and Gil Meija each tripled and singled. Eddie Bonine allowed 6 runs in only 3 1/3 innings.

    West Michigan 4, Kane County 3
    Justin Justice was 3 for 4. Cameron Maybin returned to the lineup and doubled, singled, and walked 3 times. Lucas French allowed 3 runs, 1 earned, over 6 1/3 innings. He walked 4 and struck out none.

    Oneonta 8, Batavia 5
    Scott Sizemore was 3 for 5 and James Skelton added 2 doubles. Ronnie Bourquin picked up 2 walks and his raised his OBP to 391, although he’s only slugging 345. Chris Cody left the game after 2 hitless innings. Randor Bierd pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, no walks, and 4 K’s.

    Chris Carlson was 3 for 3 with a walk. Gorkys Hernandez went 0 for 5.

  • Tigers Minor League Wrap – August 16th

    Toledo 2, Durham 1
    Chris Shelton had 2 doubles…to go along with 3 strikeouts. Kody Kirkland who was making his AAA debut went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. Cory Hamman allowed 1 run on 6 hits, no walks, and 4 K’s over 8 innings.

    Erie 5, New Britain 0
    Jon Connolly went all 7 innings and allowed only 2 hits and 3 walks while fanning 6. Jackson Melian was 1 for 2 with a walk.

    Erie 6, New Britain 2
    PJ Finigan started and pitchced 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Andrew Graham went 3 for 3.

    Palm Beach 7, Lakeland 6
    Gil Meija, Clete Thomas, Chris Robinson and Garth McKinney all had 2 hits each. Eddie Bonine allowed 10 hits in only 3 1/3 innings for 6 runs.

    Kane County 6, West Michigan 3
    Michael Hernandez was 2 for 4 with a homer. Cameorn Maybin didn’t play after being hit on the hand by a pitch the night before. Burke Badenhop surrendered 4 runs on 8 its in 5 1/3 innings.

    NY Penn All Star Game
    Scott Sizemore was 0 for 3 but Ronnie Bourquin picked up a hit and an RBI. Derek Witt and Brett Jensen each pitched a scoreless inning.

    GCL Yankees 5, GCL Tigers 1 (10 innings) Hayden Parrot went 3 for 4. Gorkys Hernandez was 0 for 5.

  • Tigers Minor League Wrap – August 15th

    Toledo 8, Durham 6
    Tiger bench players contributed to this win. Jack Hannahan, Alexis Gomez, Ramon Santiago and Kevin Hooper all chipped in. Chris Shelton took an 0 for 4 and picked up his 3rd error. Chad Durbin pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed 4 runs, 3 earned while fanning 6.

    Erie 0, New Britain 0 (in progress 10th inning) Jair Jurrjens pitched 7 shut out innings. He allowed 7 hits, 2 walks, and he struck out 5.

    Lakeland 5, Palm Beach 2

    GCL Braves 2, GCL Tigers 1
    Eric Beattie had an excellent start allowing only 2 hits over 6 innings. He fanned 8 against only 2 walks. For a player of his age at the level, he should be dominating, but given his struggles any success is a positive. Chris Carlson doubled and singled.

  • Tigers Minor League Wrap – August 14th

    Toledo 7, Richmond 5
    Mike Maroth made his 2nd rehab start. He threw 74 pitches over 5 innings. He didn’t exactly cruise with 4 runs allowed on 7 hits. He also didn’t have any easy innings with a single run scoring in the 2nd through 5th innings. Chris Shelton was 1 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout. Alexis Gomez homered.

    Erie – DNP

    Palm Beach 4, Lakeland 2
    Jeremy Johnson allowed 1 hit and 1 walk against 3 K’s in 3 innings. Paul Hammond making his 3rd appearance with Lakeland allowed 3 runs, 2 earned in 2 innings. Chris Robinson had 2 hits while Jeff Frazier and Jeff Larish each were 1 for 3.

    Oneonta 5, Auburn 2
    Santo De Leon was 3 dor 4 with a homer. Matt O’Brien allowed 2 runs, 1 earned in 5 2/3 innings fanning 5 and walking none. Casey Fien pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings before Brett Jensen finished the game fanning 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

    GCL Tigers 6, GCL Phillies 0
    The Phillies were shutout despite getting 10 hits. Alfredo Figaro allowed 8 hits, walked none, and struckout 4 in 7 innings. Gorkys Hernandez was 3 for 5 Audy Ciriaco picked up 2 hits.

    Richmond 6, Toledo 1
    This was a 1-0 pitchers duel until the 6th inning. Jordan Tata started and allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Josh Phelps had 3 hits and provided the lone run with his 22nd homer. Chris Shelton was 0 for 4.

    Connecticut 5, Erie 1
    Eulogio De La Cruz who seems to have found a home in the rotation allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, in 6 innings. don Kelly had 2 hits for Erie.

    Lakeland – DNP

    West Michigan 3, Quad Cities 1
    Cameron Maybin was 2 for 4 with a homer and 2 strikeouts. Mike Hollimon added 2 hits and a stolen base. Sendy Vasquez allowed 3 hits and 1 walk over 8 innings limiting Quad Cities to 1 unearned run in the 9th inning. Orlando Perdomo came in an retired the side for his 28th save.

    Auburn, 3, Oneonta 2 (10 innings)
    Chad Piccola started and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks over 5 2/3 innings. Lauren Gagnier pitched 4 innings of relief, fanned 4 and walked 2. Gagnier only allowed one hit. Unfortunately it was a homer in the top of the 10th.

    Norfolk 5, Toledo 4
    Josh Phelps homered and Ryan Ludwick added 2 hits. Chris Shelton was 1 for 4 with a walk and 3 K’s. Colby Lewis allowed 4 runs in 5 1/3 innings.

    Connecticut 7, Erie 3
    Don Kelly had 2 hits for Erie. Virgil Vasquez allowed 4 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings. Preston Larrison surrendered 3 runs on 5 hits in 2 innings or relief.

    Tampa 6, Lakeland 4
    Six different players picked up singles for the L Tigers. Kevin Ardoin allowed 11 hits and 6 runs in 5 innings.

    Tampa 6, Lakeland 1
    The Tigers only mustered 4 singles in this half of the double header. Eleazar Aponte, called over from the GCL team, allowed only 3 hits and 1 unearned run in 4 innings. Kevin Whelan gave up a run on 2 hits in 1 2/3 innings.

    Quad cities 5, West Michigan 2
    Justin Justice had 3 of the team’s 4 hits including a homer. Cameron Maybin was 0 for 3 with a walk. Lucas French allowed 5 runs on 4 walks, 4 strikeouts, and 9 hits in 6 innings.

    Auburn 5, Oneonta 4
    James Skelton, Ryan Strieby, and Ronnie Bourquin each had 2 hits, including a homer for Strieby. Christian Martinez allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, in 5 1/3 innings while walking none and fanning 7.

    GCL Indians 11, GCL Tigers 8
    Gorkys Hernandez left the game after 2 at-bats and I’m not sure why. Hopefully it isn’t injury related. Luis Arlet homered and doubled. Santo Franco started and lasted 2 2/3 innings surrendering 3 runs.

    The Mud Hens only managed 3 singles. Chris Shelton was 0 for 3 with a walk. Corey Hamman allowed 4 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings.

    Don Kelly picked up 3 hits and Vince Blue added 2. Nate Bumstead allowed 9 hits and 5 runs, 2 earned, over 6 2/3 innings.

    Lakeland 9, Tampa 4
    Jeff Larish was 2 for 3 with 2 walks. Nic McIntrye had 4 hits and was a double short of the cycle. Chris Robinson added 3 hits. Eddie Bonine allowed 3 runs in 5 innings.

    West Michigan 5, Quad Cities 1
    Cameron Maybin was 3 for 4 and Mike Hollimon added a triple. Burke Badenhop allowed 1 run in pitching the 7 inning complete game.

    Quad Cities 7, West Michigan 6 (10 inn)
    Anthony Claggett pitched 4 innings out of the bullpen and allowed 2 runs, 1 earned while walking 3 and fanning 5. Matt Joyce had 2 hits and Mike Hollimon hit his 14t homer. Orlando Perdomo allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the 10th to negate the 2 runs the Caps scored in the top of the frame.

    Oneonta 3, Hudson Valley 2
    James Skelton had 2 hits and Scott Sizemore tripled. Brendan Wise pitched 8 innings and scatterd 6 hits and no walks to allow 2 runs, 1 earned. Brett Jensen allowed a hit and fanned 2 for the save. The O-Tigers also found out they had 6 member named to the NY-Penn All Star team: Scott Sizemore, Brennan Boesch, Ronnie Bourquin, Matt O’Brien, Derek Witt, and Brett Jensen.

    GCL Tigers 7, GCL Yankees 6
    Gorkys Hernandez was named GCL player of the month for July (and June) and celebrated with a homer and a triple. Luis Arlet also homered among 4 hits.
