  • Tigers Minor League Wrap 4-18-08

    Toledo 8 Lehigh Valley 3
    Matt Joyce stroked his 5th homer and added a triple and a walk. Jeff Larish and Jackson Melian each had 2 hits. Eddie Bonine allowed 2 runs over 8 innings with no walks and 4 K’s.

    Erie 13 Altoona 4
    Ryan Roberson homered twice, walked, and knocked in 4 runs. Dusty Ryan had 2 doubles and a single. Danny Worth singled and walked twice. Andrew Kown allowed 11 hits, including 3 homers, but somehow only 4 runs crossed the plate in 7 innings of work.

    Tampa 1 Lakeland 4
    Jeramy Laster homered and doubled. Michale Bertram added two hits. Luis Marte was awesome allowing just 2 hits in 8 innnings of shut out ball. He fanned 7 and walked 4.

    Burlington 3 West Michigan 0
    Some kid by the name of Curtis Granderson had half the hits including a triple. Manny Miguelez fanned 7 over 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk.

    Caonabo Cosme went 3 for 3 with a homer. Jeff Larish singled, doubled, and had 2 walks. Chris Lambert pitched 7 innings of 4 hit ball with only 1 run crossing the plate. He struck out one and walked three. Blaine Neal allowed 2 hits, but also struck out the side for his 5th save. He now has 12 K’s in 7 innings of work.

    Jeff Frazier homered, doubled and walked. For the season he has a 320/414/580 line with only 3 K’s in 50 at-bats. Lucas French allowed 5 runs, 3 earned, on 5 hits and 3 walks in 5.1 innings.

    Timo Perez and Mike Hessman each hit long balls. Brent Clevlen added 2 hits. Jeremy Johnson lasted 5 innings giving up 4 runs on 8 hits and 3 walks. Blaine Neal got his 4th save fanning 2 and allowing a hit in one inning of work.

    Wilkin Ramirez, Deik Scram, Dusty Ryan, Max St. Pierre, and Danny Worth all had multi-hit games. Scram hit his 2nd homer of the season. Ben Fritz was knocked around for 8 runs in just 4.2 innings.

    Cale Iorg continues to rip the ball picking up his 3rd homer, a double, and a walk. James Skelton singled and walked twice. Michael Bertram had 2 hits and a walk. Matt O’Brien gets the win allowing 2 runs on 8 h its, no walks, and 2 K’s in 6 innings.

    Jordan Newton and Joe Tucker each had 2 hits. Casper Wells drew 3 walks. Phil Nardozi started and allowed 1 run in 3 innings on 2 hits and a walk.

    Jeff Frazier had 2 hits and a walk. Freddy Guzman added two hits and is sitting at .345. Josh Rainwater took the loss with 3 runs allowed in 4.1 innings. Casey Fien pitched 2 scoress innings.

    Cale Iorg and Scott Sizemore each had 2 hits, each homered, and each had 4 RBI. Brandon Timm, Michael Bertram, and Jeff Kunkel all had 3 hits. Jonah Nickerson allowed 2 runs over 5 innings fanning 4 and walking none.

    Joseph Tucker and Jordan Newton each had 3 hits and Audy Ciriaco added 2. Alfredo Figaro pitched 7 innings allowing only 1 unearned run on 4 hits while fanning 8 and walking 4.

    Rick Porcello had his roughest outing to date lasting only 4 innings. Still he allowed all of 4 hits and 2 walks while fanning 5 so only 2 runs crossed the plate. Cale Iorg had 2 hits to lead the “attack.”

    Chris Carlson had 2 hits, and that was the only noteworthy performance. Jon Kibler pitched 6 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits, a walk, and 5 K’s.

    The Tigers weren’t the only team to get blanked today. The Mud Hens were held to 3 hits. Chris Lambert took the loss allowing 3 runs in 5 innings on 7 hits, a walk, and 3 K’s. Casey Fossum threw 2 scoreless innings fanning 2.

    Max St. Pierre was one of 5 Seawolves with 2 hit games. St. Pierre homered for one of his hits and he also drew a walk. Andrew Kown allowed 10 runs in 4 innings on 12 hits.

    Cale Iorg had a 4 hit day and Michael Bertram added 3. James Skelton singled and walked twice. Jeramy Laster had 2 hits and 2 stolen bases. Luis Marte struggled with control walking 4 in 4 innings leading to 3 runs. Freddy Dolsi struck out 2 in picking up the save.

    Cory MIddleton had 2 hits. Justin Henry singled and walked and Kyle Peter walked twice. Kody Kaiser tripled and walked. Manny Miguelez didn’t make it out of the 2nd inning before allowing 6 runs on 3 walks and a strikeout.

Ian Ostlund allowed no walks and no hits while fanning 4 over 2 innings. Blaine Neal picked up his second save walking one and fanning one.

    Tom Brookens must be a little cheesed at Lucas French. He allowed him to stay in for 4 innings and surrender 14 runs on 15 hits. That is simply a ridiculous line and it begs the question why would Brookens let that happen? Deik Scram, Jeff Frazier, Dusty Ryan, and Ryan Roberson all homered. Freddy Guzman picked up 4 hits.

    Flying Tigers hitters went down on strikeouts 18 times in this game. Gabriel Benitez started and allowed 1 run on 3 hits, 0 walks and 3 K’s in 4 innings

    Wilkin Ramirez doubled and tripled as part of a 3 hit, 3 RBI day and he added a walk. Danny Worth hit a grand slam, and had a nice profile piece in Baseball America. Benjamin Fritz allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and 2 walks while fanning 5 in 5.1 innings.

    Lakeland 5 Sarasota 10
    Jeramy Laster homered and drove in 3 runs. Shawn Roof had two hits and a walk and is hitting .417. Jonah Nickerson was rocked for 6 runs and didn’t make it out of the third inning. Angel Castro followed and allowed 4 more runs in 1.1 innings.

    Ryan Raburn is trying to show he deserves to be with the big club coming up a triple short of the cycle. Jeff Larish hit his 4th homer of the season. Erick Almonte homered and doubled. Armando Galarraga fanned 5 and walked none as part of a 7 inning, 3 run night. Aaron Fultz pitched 2 scoreless innings to finish it.

    Quiet night for the Seawolves bats with no extra base hits. Danny Worth picked up 2 hits and scored the lone run. Jon Connolly allowed 1 run over 6 innings of work on 3 hits, 3 walks, and no strike outs. Casey Fien pitched 2 scoreless innings.

    Duane Below started and pitched 6 shut out innings allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks while fanning 9. Freddy Dolsi picked up his second save with a scoreless 9th. James Skelton was 1 for 2 with 2 walks and Scott Sizemore was finally held hitless. Brennan Boesch homered.

    Kyle Peter reached base all 5 times out of the leadoff spot with 3 hits and 2 walks. Casper Wells added 2 hits, as did Kody Kaiser and Chris Carlson. Alfredo Firgaro pitched 6 shut out innings fanning 7 against 2 walks and 3 hits.

    Ryan Raburn homered and knocked in 3 while Mike Hessman doubled and tripled. Brent Clevlen went 3 for 4 and continues a promising start to his season. Matt Joyce hit his second homer of the year to go along with a walk. Virgil Vasquez was knocked around for 7 hits but limited the damage to 2 runs while fanning 6 in 5 innings. Clay Rapada and Preston Larrison combined to allow 6 runs in 3 innings.

    Wil Rhymes 3 run homer was the offense. Wilkin Ramirez doubled and walked. Josh Rainwater went 5 2/3 innings allowing just 1 run on 3 hits, no walks, and 6 K’s. Brett Jensen recorded his first save of the season with a scoreless 9th inning.

    Rick Porcello made his 2nd start and was excellent again. He was tagged for 4 runs, but all were unearned and came in a 3 error 4th inning. He allowed 4 hits, one of which was an infield single, while fanning 4 and walking none. Cale Iorg, who made 2 errors, went 3 for 5. James Skelton and Scott Sizemore each added 2 hits.

    Kyle Peter doubled and walked and Jordan Newton added 2 singles. Ramon Garcia gave up all 5 runs on 7 hits, no walks,and 6 K’s over 6 innings. Wilton Garcia fanned 4 in 2 scoreless innings of relief.

    It was Timo time in Toledo as Perez had 2 doubles and 4 RBI as part of a 3 hit night. Derek Wathan added 2 hits and a walk and is hitting .429. Ryan Raburn picked up 3 walks to go with a double. Eddie Bonine allowed 3 runs on 4 hits, 3 walks, and 2 Ks.

    Freddy Guzman went deep for the only Erie extra base hit and added a single. Deik Scram was 3 for 4. Danny Christenson, Matt Rusch, and Juan Cedeno all allowed 4 runs.

    Scott Sizemore is a tough out with 2 more hits and a walk today as did Justin Justice. Ryan Strieby homered and finished with 5 RBI. A combination of relief pitchers saw this one through. Freddy Dolsi struggled allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while retiring only one.

    Lou Ott homered and doubled and Ryan Strieby hit his second homer. Luis Marte allowed 1 run on 3 hits, 2 walks, and 6 K’s in 4 innings of work.

    Casper Wells did the bulk of the damage with 2 homers and 2 singles. Chris Carlson followed him with 2 doubles. Marc McBratney added 3 hits as well. Jon Kibler allowed 1 unearned run on 3 hits and no walks while fanning 4 in 5 innings. Santo Mieses was perfect for 3 innings of relief and notched 4 punchouts.
