Game 2012.23: Royals at Tigers

After a rain postponement to be rescheduled for September 24, the Tigers are still 11-11, tied for 2nd with Chicago, 1 game behind Cleveland.

Duane Below and his 0.00 ERA have been bumped back to the bullpen, and instead Rick Porcello will face off against Luke Hochevar.  Tune in early for an idea how this is going to go: Porcello has a 2012 1st-inning ERA so far of 22.50.

The lineup is pretty much the same as what was scheduled for last night, although with the extra day to mull it over Ol’ Smokey bumped Ramon Santiago in front of Don Kelly.

Tonight’s random fact: Last year, to solve their 3rd base problems, the Oakland A’s acquired Virginia Commonwealth product Scott Sizemore from the Detroit Tigers.  This season, with Sizemore injured, the A’s aquired Virginia Commonwealth product Brandon Inge from the Detroit Tigers.

Tonight’s player of the Pre-game:  Still Miguel Cabrera, who is 15-29 career against Royals starter Luke Hochevar

Today’s Best-LFielder-DHing Lineup:

  1. Austin Jackson CF
  2. Brennan Boesch RF
  3. Miguel Cabrera 3B
  4. Prince Fielder 1B
  5. Andy Dirks DH
  6. Alex Avila C
  7. Jhonny Peralta SS
  8. Ramon Santiago 2B
  9. Don Kelly LF

Porcello’s was quite solid in his first two starts (14.2 IN, 3 ER), his last two starts… not so good (7.2 IN 13 ER).

KC has been a good hitting team this year, 7th best team BA (.263) in MLB. Your guess is as good as mine as to what Porcello we’ll see tonight.

KC team ERA 4th from bottom in MLB – April’s gone, May is here, good time for Tiger bats to wake up.

Inge went 1-3 last night, and Oakland got all excited–they’ve got him batting 2nd tonight.

Inge, now known as the “Pride of the East Bay,” is 0 for 2 tonight. And true to form one of his outs is K. He is Consistent.

What happened to Dirks? MLB At Bat says he left the game with an injured leg?

strained hamstring. He is now listed as “day to day.”

Andy walked off the field without a limp. That’s a good sign he won’t need long to recover. What a sparkplug he has been for Leyland this season. Maybe the best medicine for him this spring was stiff competition from Clete Thomas. It seemed to set a fire under Dirk’s belt this spring.

Let’s see if Ricky can keep it under control with a 7 run cushion.

    Ajax is amazing!

The ball was screaming off his bat all night. His only weakness right now is his inability to read rival starters mechanics / habits at 1B. What’s amazing is Austin can read a batted ball hit to the outfield as soon as it’s belted. But he has much difficulty in deciphering a pitcher’s set-position on the mound.

Ron LeFlore could probably use a few dollars in his retirement – lives in the Detroit area and may be the right tutor for making Jackson a smarter base stealer. Tigers should ring his telephone and invite Ron to some Comerica Park practices.

Great point. He really should be stealing 40-50 bases per year.

I can’t believe it’s already time for JV to pitch again. I’m calling a no-hitter.
