Tigers are 1-3 thus far to start this 6 game interleague road trip. During these four games, opposing pitchers are 2-7 with 5 RBI and 3 BB. That’s a .500 OBP, and as many RBI as any other spot in the lineup. Arguably, it only really mattered in Saturday’s loss, but watching the opposing pitcher drive in more runs than the whole team can’t be much of a boost in the dugout.
Max Scherzer looks to be the first ML pitcher to get to 10 wins tonight. He hit a rough patch in late May/early June, but he’s rebounded nicely allowing only 3 ER over his last 12 2/3 with a .95 WHIP.
Scherzer will be opposed by Chad Billingsley. Billingsley is hittable with a 1.52 WHIP on the year against a 4.65 ERA. Note his 2011 stats are significantly worse than his career stats (3.66 ERA and 1.37 WHIP), and he had a 16 win season back in 2008. I get the feeling that he’s the kind of guy who could turn into Cy for a night against the boys.

I’m watching the pregame show and Rod Allen is doing an interview with Boesch, and brings up Boesch’s surfing ability. Rod proceeds to ask Boesch if he thinks that he could teach him how to surf. Boesch says he doesn’t know, he is not a good teacher, and then throws in “I dunno, there aren’t too many brothers in the water.” I’m glad that Rod thought it was funny.

The Twinkies started the game with 8 hits and put up an 8-spot against Bumgarner/Giants in the 1st inning.
Beware the Twinkies – i believe they’ve won 14 of their last 17.

Bumgarner’s start vs Twins- 1/3 inning pitched, 9 hits, 8 runs, all earned. ERA went from 3.21 to 4.06.

He should have walked the 8 hitter to get to CBill, do it every time in NL ball. That run is on Leyland. Learn to manage in the NL, you only did it for 12 or so years.
