Game 2010:024: Angels at Tigers

It’s Rick’s turn. Dontrelle Willis is figuring stuff out. Jeremy Bonderman is showing glimpses. Justin Verlander didn’t allow an earned run last time out. It’s Rick Porcello’s turn flip the switch.

Whether it has been bad luck (.427 BABIP, 12.7% line drive rate, 63% LOB) or bad pitching, Porcello is getting knocked around and giving up way too many runs. He didn’t make it out of the 5th inning when he faced the Angels 2 starts ago.

Joel Pineiro is on the bump for the Angels. The Tigers got him for 9 hits in 7.1 innings out in LA, but they managed to not score any of those baserunners.

The Johnny Damon goes for RBI 1500 lineup is:

  1. Jackson, CF
  2. Damon, DH
  3. Ordonez, RF
  4. Cabrera, 1B
  5. Boesch, LF
  6. Inge, 3B
  7. Laird, C
  8. Sizemore, 2B
  9. Everett, SS

I was hoping to see Santiago instead of Everett…then I checked and found that Santiago is career 0 – 7 vs Pineiro. Oh wait, Everett is 0 – 9, oh boy. Then there’s always Avila (0 -3) and Raburn (0 – 3).

I guess we’ll have to count on the big bats, like Cabrera…what? oh…(.167).
So has hit him? Mr. 2000 (.423). Go for it Maggs!

(Actually Carlos has hit him very well also (.417)…figures).

*This post intended as an inverse-jinx, with the desired effect that Maggs goes 0-fer and the rest of the lineup shells him.

Geez, what is this, amateur hour?? You cannot publicly state the inverse jinx and expect it to work! We need every win we can get, so get it together, Coleman. 😉

But since you just inversed jinxed my inverse jinx by saying it would never work, then clearly it…well, obviously I don’t won’t to undo my secret fake-inverse-jinx reverse trick, so I’ll leave it at that. But thanks for doing your part…

Oh, and hey, Pineiro has a no-hitter going, how about that!

Well, Ordonez is the only hit-less batter out of the first 4. I like your odds thusfar.

Decent looking crowd tonight. I was in the D all last week and they were gone, that was a bummer. I did see the NFL draft at Ford Field though.

Angels have a solid line up, we need hits

    Friends,

I don’t work for Sony nor do I work for MLB.com. Nor do I consider myself a PS3 fanboy I’m just getting that out of the way, lest was I now tell you be construed as market driven or simply over-eager hype.

The new MLB TV application for the PS3 is incredible. I think MLB extra-innings is about to be a thing of the past. I honestly can’t believe how smooth this thing is in playback and how amazing the image quality is. It’s also have the price of extra-innings.

And now back to the game…

Continuing with the theme set out by Billfer in the pre-game write up…I think Porcello is more unlucky tonight then bad. I also think he’s getting squeezed by the ump.

My god Jackson is good out there.

Joey C, I have MLB EI and I almost got the MLBTV package. I wonder if I can get it from my lap top to my Plasma TV with a serial connection next year. I also like the fact that I could take the laptop on the porch and hang out and watch the Tigers. Does it buffer well and give you a smooth game?

Steve, even before this new universe of PS3 games opened up to me, I would still recommend MLBTV over extra innings. I’ve been following the Tigers on it since 2006. I got extra innings in 2008 and I really wish I had just stuck with MLB. It streams very smooth and they’ve gotten the image quality to the point where you’re really not giving up a thing. And yes the portability is another outstanding feature. Although you do have to deal with the occasional freeze. But I just reload it and it’s generally fine after that.

But I’m telling you this PS3 stuff is incredible. It’s running at full HD, full screen. It’s at least as good as what I get off my cable box.

That will teach you to walk Inge with Longball Laird on deck!

If this kid keeps doing this, I’m gonna start calling for Guillen to play short when he gets back!

      I’m not serious…totally.

I think we have a new full-time left fielder.

Man, just saw the highlights and he walloped that thing–long swing, quick bat, opposite field in Comerica. Impressive. That one-hopper he hit off of the wall against the Twins was smoked too. Love seeing the rooks playing well. B-Bo was sprinting around those bases!

Whoa, that Boesch homer was a BOMB. That was a loooooooong home run. Big time power.

The way Action Jackson plays centre field……you would never know he was a rookie!

Can anyone recount seeing another home run flying out of the park in the left-centerfield gap like that? I’m sure it’s happened but I don’t remember ever seeing a shot like that at comerica.

I have lots of questions now that the offense is performing kind of well (disregard if it does not last).

Is it because Lloyd McClendon now has total control of the team’s hitting? Were the rumors true that too many players were going to Van Slyke for hitting advice instead of Lloyd? Is why he was not asked back this year? Did anybody read Van Slyke’s book about the 2008 Tigers? Was it any good?

      Great win tonight.

That’s very interesting. This new found discipline at the plate, and guys slapping hits into right field on a regular basis (Mr. Inge, please step forward), has been striking (every pun intended). I thought maybe Damon’s reputation for having a great eye played a part (with his rings as his credentials)–from most accounts he has been nothing short of an outstanding clubhouse presence, but I would like the scoop on that too.

I am at the game And wondering if there is a reason they took mags out of the game. Is he hurt? It seems early a bit early, even with a 6 run lead.

    1. Joey C. Avatar
      Joey C.

Apparently he’s been dealing with some sort of abdominal strain. According the Rod, Leyland just wants to rest him with the 6 run lead.

    2. Steve Avatar
      Steve

Jason, they said he had cramps in his side for the last few days, big lead , took in out to reat

    1. Joey C. Avatar
      Joey C.

Of course, if our pen wasn’t unhittable, I’m guessing Leyland would have left him in there. I mean, why not turn the ball over to it?

    2. fuprete Avatar
      fuprete

Sorry….I don’t think he should be there. His range has to be way down with all his ankle and leg problems. I’d rather see a .240 hitting SS that is a superior fielder than a .300 hitter whose every chance is one to hold your breath on.

      1. Joey C. Avatar
        Joey C.

Yeah, I’m afraid those days are over for Carlos. It’s too bad though…this lineup would sure be a lot more fearsome if he could still do it.

And ridiculously, upon reading your replies, I actually felt a momentary twinge of concern for him. I guess that means he’s part of the Tigers family now! I mean, for me at least 🙂
