Game 2017.74: Tigers at Padres

Michael Fulmer pitched very well last night, but he was no match for Cy Perdomo and crew. The offensive stars of the game, such as they were, were Alex Avila, Andrew Romine, and John Hicks, who know can be seen smirking on the WAR gallery. It is futile for Miguel Cabrera to even TRY to catch him! Add Mr. WAR himself, J-Up, who drew two walks, refusing to swing at pitches that were not in the “strike zone,” whatever that is.

Today’s Lineup:

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Alex Avila, C
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. JD Martinez, RF
  5. Justin Upton, LF
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  7. Andrew Romine, CF
  8. Jose Iglesias, SS
  9. Anibal Sanchez, P

Pitching: Anibal Sanchez vs Dinelson Lamet, if that’s even his real name.

Could be an interesting matchup. Lamet has given up 8 HR in 24 innings so far. Tigers favored by a touchdown.

    Continued discussion from yesterdays blog..
    1.Tradeable Tiger:
Fullmer.. JD.. J Willie, Iggy, Dixon, Avila, Kinsler,Hicks, Greene Norris, A Willie.. Almost in that order
    2. Too much $$$:.. JD, Miggy, VMart, JUp, Zim
    3. Who’d want them:
Casty, McCann, Presley, Mikie, Sanchez, Romine, Saupold, Stumpf
…. But owners surprise you they are not the smartest of business men, they are just rich. They do many stupid things.

Tradeable Tiger as in other teams would want them, or as in Detroit would actually trade them? I don’t think Avila would trade Fulmer, Norris, or Iglesias. I don’t see a great deal of upside in trading Avila or Kinsler. Or Machado, Hicks, and Alex Wilson, for that matter. Greene, Justin Wilson, and JD would seem to be the clearest targets for contenders looking to strengthen their hand. There is no compelling reason to trade any of them, so I would hope that Detroit would drive a very hard bargain.

Too much $$$: JD is not too much $$$ – he’s an amazingly cheap rental in terms of a mid-season trade. Sanchez belongs in this list – a few more good starts and other teams *will* be interested, but not in the price tag. Anything involving Miggy or V-Mart would take place after the season, if at all. Upton will decide what happens with Upton – a mid-season trade doesn’t seem like a possibility.

Who’d want them: Zimmermann belongs in this list. Other teams would want McCann and Castellanos, but their “buy low” offers probably wouldn’t go anywhere. The other guys, well, yeah, I can’t see other teams coming around asking on them.

In terms of the trade deadline… I don’t know. Unless you are on top of MLB prospects, which I certainly am not, it’s hard to get too excited about a bunch of speculative trades for them. It would be different if Detroit was in the market for a CF or 3B or RP who could make a difference right away, or if the Tigers had someone just waiting to step in and replace any of the potential trade candidates. But they are not and they don’t.

I am encouraged by how Sanchez shut that potential disaster down. Now the question is can the mighty Tigers score at least 1 run?

Casty we teach our high school and Little League runners there’s a running lane you….. Oh nevermind I forgot it was Casty. Who already is rated the second worst base runner in baseball. You already know who, fellow DH Tiger, is last!

That catcher was absolutely illegal.. Cannot block the plate without having the ball. But Tigers would have appealed.. Lost, Ausmus tossed the way things gave been going!

I predict that J-Up is playing so he can opt out at the end of the year. He’s taking walks and is really hustling on all his at bats.

for the right return of talent (to DET); all the DET players (“rentals”, “controlled through ’18” and “long-term investments”) mentioned in this article should be made available – though i suspect the weight of a few of these guys contracts make them untrade-able

Good article, realistic which also means pessimistic from a Tiger prospective. JD is a “must trade” player since we will not sign him as a free agent. Might as well shake the bushes and try to get the best deal we can get. If he goes to free agency we get a draft pick. Realistically we can’t get much at the trade deadline.
