Game 2017.9: Twins at Tigers

For the third straight day the Tigers win in exciting fashion. I could get used to this.

The Tigers will be facing Phil Hughes, who always seems to give them fits. But that was before they discovered their secret Caesar recipe. Perhaps MLB wondered about the recipe: Andrew Romine was drug tested immediately following the game. (Thanks to Only Tiger Fan in Mississippi for the link).

Meanwhile, Miguel Cabrera has changed his walkup music.

Today’s Lettuce Leadoff Lineup:

  1. Romine, 2B
  2. Castellanos, 3B
  3. Cabrera, 1B
  4. V Martinez, DH
  5. Upton, LF
  6. Collins, RF
  7. McCann, C
  8. Jones, CF
  9. Iglesias, SS

Jordan Zimmermann, P

Instead of sitting the hot bat of Romine (still strange to type that), Brad decided to give Kinsler his first day off and serve The Lettuce as the opening course.

Not so much a great sign for Sanchez. Maybe Lettuce can close the inning.

Iggy throws his bat at a 3-2 pitch in the LH box get Jones thrown out on steal.. thats no way to make up the 4 runs..

Two comments on our last inning: Leadoff walk, 3-1 count, WHY ARE YOU BUNTING? Did starting Jones force Iggy to chase a bad pitch?

Looks like Sanchez is in mid-season form. Unfortunately in 2016 mid-season form. I am glad Brad has not pulled him, next stop, Toledo?

On the plus side… Miggy bomb.. Victor hard shot the other way Vs the shift… Upton early season bomb… Some good stuff from 3 we need to get going!

If she weren’t a mere 40 years younger than me …..never mind I’ve always feared Teresa’s wrath!

in light of Jimenez’ impressive outing and Sanchez’ not-so-impressive outing (again!) – DET sends Jiminez back to Toledo, calls up Cuevas (“long reliever”) and provides Sanchez w/his fat paycheck and a pat on the back

Norman, I can sort of understand sending Jimenez down again so he can get more work in. But that would make me ask, why bring him up in the first place? Hopefully that was explained to Jimenez when he came up. Cuevas got into 3 games with Boston last year. He seems to have control problems in that small sample.

The reason to keep Sanchez seems pretty clear: stupidity or all our other candidates are also really bad.

Also every dollar the Tigers add to their current payroll from here on out comes with a 30% tax.
