Game 2017.3: Red Sox at Tigers, 2017 Home Opener

It’s too soon to tell, especially after the way the season sputtered to a start in the rain, but this offense certainly has the look of one that will have us crossing our fingers and hoping for a few home runs: they don’t look rally-worthy, especially with Victor clogging the bases whenever he gets on, Kinsler getting picked off as much as professionally possible, and various other clownery.

It’s the Curly Fries Offense (or nothing). Well, they do have one non-HR RBI , courtesy of Alex Avila of all people.

It doesn’t help that Miguel Cabrera has started the season 0-for-6, which isn’t really a big deal, but still is something he has never done before (which is pretty incredible).

But none of that matters today. The season has barely begun, and there is a whole lot of time to prove initial impressions wrong. And it’s Home Opener Day! Pudge Rodriguez will throw out the first pitch, the outfield grass sports a MR. I tribute, the planes will fly overhead, much will be had to eat and drink, and baseball will be back in the D. Enjoy, everyone!

Today’s Home Opener Lineup:

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. Justin Upton, LF
  6. Tyler Collins, RF
  7. James McCann, C
  8. JaCoby Jones, CF
  9. Jose Iglesias, SS

Michael Fulmer, P

Fingers Collins was all the Tiger offense yesterday, and earns himself another start.

On the Red Sox side of things, the Tigers get a bit of a break with Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez both out with “flu-like symptoms,” and Xander Bogaerts already out on bereavement.

Tigers usually struggle against pitchers like Wright that don’t throw a lot of strikes… The Tigers with zero patience swing anyway…we will see…

Another run, courtesy of great base running by Castellanos (I can’t remember ever using that sentence before).

As bad a base runner As Casty is.. That was a good aggressive triple instead of a double!!… And got us a VMart run!

Either Gameday is way off or this “blue” has called 15 strikes on pitches that were balls.. All outside pitches to RH batters….

Got to follow the book. We MUST use the 8th inning guy in he 8th and the closer for no more than 4 outs. Couldn’t let J Wilson come out for the 8th after giving up a 2 base error!

No matter how this ends, it appears DD still can’t put a good ball pen together!

If you all will indulge me I would like to go back to the pre game festivities… very nice tributes, I get the impression from some of the previous comments, that Mr I was a good man, and since he was a Marine, he gets a pass LOL… Did anyone notice that the Jarhead carrying the US flag was without his cover… oops!

Mr. I was a fine man. I didn’t hold fact he was a Marine against him just as I do not hold it against my son in law, another fine man, father and grandfather. I can safely say Mr. I did more for the Detroit area than any 5 politicians you can name.

Yeah…saw that…it appears the wind blew it off when they were in attention. The hat was lying behind them. Great presentation! My brother attended the Rangers opener against Cleveland. His son-in-law was doing the ground coordination of a T38 flyover from Sheppard AFB.
