The Tigers take the first two of four, and now go for the creosote game of the four-game series.
As frustrating as this season has been as a Tiger fan, how would you like to be a White Sox fan? In the offseason the team added a bona fide home run crown threat in Todd Frazier (he is currently 2nd in the majors with 28), and added Mat Latos and James Shields to a rotation that already included Jose Quintana and bona fide Cy Young contender Chris Sale, who takes the mound tonight (currently 14-3 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.01 WHIP). Then in the first 30 or so games they run out to a 6 game lead on the division. Then…it all fell apart. They lost 11 of their last 14 in May, and haven’t recovered.
They seem to be hexed in this series as well: Mike Pelfrey somehow managed to crawl through 5 1/3 with only 1 run, despite giving up 8 hits and a walk. The Tigers had to hit the bullpen early, but the rain bailed them out and gave Pelfrey the W. Then last night, after being the first team to really hit Fulmer and taking a 5-4 lead, Cabrera came out of a month long slump and the Tigers pulled out a 2nd one. Now the word “sell” can be heard murmured in Chicago, even in conjunction with the word “Sale.”
As for the Tigers, If Victor Martinez can break his slump also, the team will have a rather formidable 1-5 in the lineup. Victor and his binoculars are a ridiculous 18-for-36 lifetime with a 1.453 OPS against Sale. If I were a White Sox fan I would have a bad feeling where this is going.
UPDATE: The Sox snakebite continues (or, perhaps, something else is up). Sale scratched for Albers, with “flu-like symptoms.” throwback uniform rage.

As Coleman said, how would you like to be a White Sox fan? As far as trading for Sale, out of the question for the Tigers. We are in the situation we are (floundering between mediocre and not so good) because we mortgaged the future too many times. Depending on what happened in the clubhouse, perhaps even DD may lose interest in him.

I’m having a hard time summoning up any bad feelings about this game, because I’m just too amused by the whole Chris Sale saga.
Coleman, take credit! You scooped ESPN, Fox Sports and even MLB baseball on a great story.
I was definitely first! Imagine how amused I was to find out that was the actual explanation. Maybe Sale is a pioneer, a Curt Flood. Players everywhere, rise up against horrible alternate jerseys!!

I’m guessing the uniform issue runs much deeper. Sale is gonna get dealt soon, and that clubhouse is gonna go into a tailspin. Williams has lost this team.

Isn’t that the great thing abut baseball? No matter who you are it can humble you in a second. Sorry Kevin, don’t have time to feel sorry for the Rangers, used all mine with the Tigers the past 3 years.
As fat as Chris Sale goes I can only say I would not want him on the Tigers if he is that much of a loose cannon, no matter how good he is. This is not about a slave laborer rebelling but about an overpaid prima donna who thinks he can do whatever he wants. Screw him!

Because tomorrow will be the completion of today’s game, the team will be required to take the field in the alternate throwback jerseys, then change to play the regularly scheduled game.
