The Tigers held on last night, and now we have a rubber-game rematch between Sale and Pelfrey to decide the series. The last time the two faced Pelfrey won his first game as a Tiger, and Cameron Maybin and the Martinezes did the damage at the plate. I wonder what kind of odds you could get on Pelfrey beating Sale back-to-back?
I’m with those wondering why we are still carrying an extra pitcher and a short bench, with a few guys banged up. Aviles is back in the lineup again, sore wrist and all.

Victor is out again, which really hurts—Victor is one of the few guys that has consistently had Sales number, which makes me think his “knee issues” might be more serious than we are being led to believe.

Why is Pelfrey still in the rotation? It seems that Sanchez is owed about twice what Pelfrey is, and he was sent to the pen. Is Pelfrey really that much better?
DET obviously doesn’t have a lot of confidence in Sanchez over Pelfrey, or Pelfrey would be in the pen… and i tend to agree w/that lesser-of-two-evils choice
plus, they’re trying to build Sanchez’ confidence and effectiveness back up (an inning or two at a time), to get him back in the rotation or to increase his trade value, which is pretty close to nothing due to this year and last year’s performance and his contract (DET is on the hook for $16.8M this year and in ’17)
i was hoping Boyd and Norris would fill the Sanchez & Pelfrey rotation spots, but that’s not going to happen…for a while anyway
I get what you are saying, but there must be some negative value to having a significant percentage of your fan base tune out every 5th game.
To me being predictably bad (5-6 innings, 10-12 base runners, 4-5 run allowed) is in some ways worse than giving up big innings and blowing 7-8 run leads. The later are more comical/interesting to me. Pelfrey is just boring and uninteresting.
how about that bottom 1/3 of the order…and against Sale, no less!

Pelfrey wouldn’t look as bad as he has if he had gotten some better run support and (more important) if he had been better managed. Do you think he’ll start the 7th? Sanchez needs to build his confidence and improve his pitching. He is the big disappointment, not Pelfrey.

Another missed opportunity. If a home run ties or even wins it, why wouldn’t you let Salty bat for Aviles or even Iggy? We lost 2 of 3 to the White Sox. Both losses can be laid squarely on the Brilliance of Brad. He has mismanaged almost every opportunity he had to win the two losses. Tonight, he let Pelfrey start the 7th and the lead off hitter got a ground single up the middle. Then he brings in Hardy to pitch to Eaton who is batting .348 against lefthanders. Luckily his double landed in the seats and we loaded the bases. Sanchez came in and got the two outs but one was a sac fly putting Pelfrey in for the loss. Sanchez was Sanchez in the 8th, and luckily only gave up one run. But, too late, we were done. We stand an excellent chance of being swept by the Royals.
These games cannot land in Brads decision making lap. His desision making or lack thereof is the difference between 87-75 and 75-87………a winnable game yet Greene..J Wilson..A Wilson …KRod…. all sat!
