Game 2016.39: Twins at Tigers

Well, that was certainly more exciting than I thought it was going to be last night. It looked like the Twins were cooked when Kinsler took the first pitch of the game deep and led off an 8-run first inning, especially with Zimmerman on the mound. But…Tigers.

Brad got a little excited also, and went all Earl Weaver out there. He said 7 or 8 players were upset about the strike zone, and he was speaking for them.

Tonight is the Pelfrey game of the series. The last time Pelfrey won a start Brad Ausmus was in grade school or something. He is the current whipping boy du jour (aside from Brad of course), but he really did pitch well enough to win last time out.

Today’s Lineup:

  1. Kinsler, 2B
  2. JD Martinez, RF
  3. Cabrera, 1B
  4. Martinez, DH
  5. Castellanos, 3B
  6. Upton, LF
  7. Maybin, CF
  8. McCann, C
  9. Iglesias, SS

Maybin got off to a great start. Of course Gose did last season too. How about Moya as a late inning PH for McCann? There are worse things than having a lefty with power on the bench.

Big game, Brad suspended, Gene in charge. Twinkies favored by a touchdown? It really was an ugly win as Norman said but it was a win and entertaining. Brad showed emotion but perhaps 2 1/2 years too late. Who I thought had a great debut as a Tiger was Maybin who had 2 hits, walk, sac bunt (not a misprint) and a stolen base.

I agree Tony, Maybin provides a potential (badly needed) spark.

DET player get a little taste tonight of life w/o Ausmus…though I do believe Lamont at the helm is at least one step backward… but I guess we’ll see what tricks Gene has up his sleeve tonight …he did have Maybin sac bunt last night.

Another night that Pelfrey can’t get any support.

Gene, Gene the Managing Machine has his team put together some hits….just shy of a rally.

Did the Twinkies inherit our pen from last year?

Strike that as we do have a rally as Everyday Ian strikes one out over the left field fence! And now JD!

Amazing. Maybin for Ausmus. Great trade!

Actually this is a great spot to bring in Lowe. He’s been bad lately and it gives him a chance to pitch a comeback inning.

Bad sign, with a 5 run lead the LAST thing you should do is walk somebody.

He survived, but I wish they would listen to Jack Morris about allowing contact and letting the fielders to do their jobs.

brilliant move by Ausmus to get himself suspended yesterday so that he could work ‘behind the scenes’ during today’s game and swap bullpens 😉

we’ve seen the Tigers do almost the same thing (more than once) recently that the Twinkies pen did tonight… i feel for Twinkie fans, gonna be a long year for them

Paid attendance was 27,000…there weren’t more than 14,000 there. The place looked empty
