Game 2015.61: Indians at Tigers

Winning 3 of 4 ain’t bad, unless you consider that we’d have to do that over 16 games, just to get back to 8 over.

A bunch of roster moves today, or coming soon.

First of all, Shane Greene has been optioned to Toledo. Greene has been getting drilled over the past two months and some time down on the farm could be useful. Jason Beck reminds us that the Tigers sent down Scherzer in 2010 for two starts, so expect Greene to be a leading Cy Young candidate for some other team in 2020.

Ian Krol back up. Meh.

More excitingly, Justin Verlander is slated to start tomorrow, which most likely means that Angel Nesbitt will be sitting around the campfire next to Shane Greene telling all the kids about the good ‘ole days soon.

Tonight’s Lineup with career #s off of Salazar:

  1. Rajai Davis, DH (2-for-7, walk, K)
  2. Ian Kinsler, 2B (5-for-12, HR, 2 walks, K)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B (6-for-17, double, HR, 8 K’s)
  4. Yoenis Cespedes, LF (0-for-3, K)
  5. Tyler Collins, RF
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B (4-for-11, 2 doubles, HR, 3 K’s)
  7. James McCann, C (0-for-1)
  8. Jose Iglesias, SS (1-for-7, walk, K)
  9. Anthony Gose, CF (1-for-4, walk, 3 K’s)

Great pitching matchups for the weekend. I actually like ours better than the Indians….IF we can get JV off and running….lets continue to be Indian killers!

How does Dr Strangeglove actually catch Kinslers shot there. We always count on Rayburn to mess uo!!!!

Gee the worst baserunning team in the MBL strikes early!…first A horrible swing by Cespedes to start with. But I liked Davis aggressiveness…. almost worked.

Coleman….since you always post the great photo of Bill Freehand blocking the plate against Brock with your posts, there is a good article in the Free Press about Freehand’s grandson getting drafted by the Tigers. An emotional read!

I didn’t see that, I’ll check it out, thanks! The ’68 WS was the first baseball game I ever watched, as a little Colemanella. My brother and I got Tiger t-shirts the next year; he got Norm Cash, I got Bill Freehan. I think I won that one, but Stormin’ Norman might have a different take.

Jose is definitely a treat to watch!
And Price at 58 pitches thru 6 —–THAT’S efficient!

Another brilliant piece of late-innings management, Brad…

Asmus -1…Kinsler -1…Miggy bails them out!

In fact Asmus -2 for batting Casty 6th! Instead of 8-9 or 10

If you bunt Kins there Miggy gets an IBB.

That’s a good point there, Kevin; I had actually forgotten Cabrera was up next. So I take that one back against Ausmus. Just lucky that Kins missed and struck out, so he couldn’t take away one of Mig’s RBIs.

    But nice shot by #24!
Another of Miggy’s straight-away CF BOMBS!!
Miggy having a tough time with Cleveland pitching —- he’s only hitting .640 now….

Kinsler sets the Indians up by swinging at 3 pitches no where near the strikezone. So the Indians relax a little then a frickin BOMB!!!! By Miggy…….wow!!!

You’re right, jud. So maybe that was a smart move by Ausmus after all —–utilizing Kinsler for the goat that he is lately!

        Clark -1

@jud —- you mean you think he should have tried to score him on Iggy’s grounder? I don’t know —-could have been a X-out at the plate…..

100% of the time the Tigers try that “go on contact”. Well it would have actually worked there. So I gave Clark the -1…

OK, going on contact —-I guess you’re right. Clark’s usually sharper than that.

GOC never works! I just watched a Reds game recently where the GOC guy was literally less than halfway to home when the ball got there. There must be metrics for this?

I’m going back to what I’d thought originally. Their SS fielded the ball, spun, and immediately looked to home. Even with GOC, he prob would have had us dead to rights.

Indians pulled off a nice D stop on that grounder by Iggy. Against a good pitcher like Salazar, it’s not that easy to get that sac fly ball.

McCann gonna be here for a long time…unfortunately for him Ausmus can’t wait for his man love Avila to come back. And Ausmus will announce he will platoon them….then he won’t…..

Yeah, Tigers fans, get ready to be Ausmus-ed!

I don’t think Ausmus himself loves Avila. But Leyland told him to, and Lamont is there whispering in his ear “love Avila.” OK, maybe that is too creepy a version.

(A little creepy perhaps, but does get the point across!)
I must admit tho, I would like to see Alex get some games in. And just before he DL’ed, he was actually starting to see the ball better, from batter’s box. Maybe surprise us all and become a true .255 hitter?

        1. KW Avatar
          KW

Haha, he’s 28 and has hit over .250 twice in seven seasons. I think the odds are against that.

          1. Kaline fan Avatar
            Kaline fan

Correct, but even if he’s .220, I still like to see him behind the plate calling some games; he’s done a lot over the years for this club……

Look at David roll. Great D on infield behind him sure, but his last few outings have been absolute gems! —–including the one that Soria lost for him.

Ausmus ought to take Miggy out of the lineup whenever we play Cleveland —–anyone with me?

Nice! Lot of positives to take away from this one = Cabrera, infield D, but #1 Plus is of course the continuing string of HI-quality starts by Price. This another CG (2nd consec) on less than 100 pitches —-impressive.
Can JV keep it rolling tomorrow? I have good feelings about it.
