Last night again went according to plan, as Justin Verlander shook off his last start and shut out the Indians, with the help of some diving stops by the big guys on the corners.
Today Anibal Sanchez will try to do his part as the Tigers look to even up the 2012 tally with Cleveland (9-7 vs Detroit) over these last two games.
And the Tigers will be peeking at the Chicago-Minnesota game in the clubhouse, which should be ending just as their game begins.
Be aware that tomorrow’s Cleveland finale has the odd 3:05 start time.
Speaking of scheduling, the Detroit’s 2013 schedule has been released, and the Tigers have drawn the short end of the stick with the inter league scheduling, getting the only inter league season ending series, in Miami–which means they will be closing out 2013 with a possible pennant race decided by games in which their pitchers are batting.
Stat of the Day: Quintin Berry is 3-5 (.600) with 2 doubles against Justin Masterson.
Today’s Player of the Pre-game: Quintin Berry. Berry takes advantage of the Masterson sinker to rack up multiple infield hits.

Good to see QB playing as he has had success against Masterson!
It seems that QB is most effective when he is in the line-up full-time, as when he was replacing A-Jax earlier this season. Since then he has been scuffling, when seeing only spot duty …… reverting to his minor league play.
Listening to Dan and Jim as the Fox game in Mississippi is Atlanta and Washington. However all in Mississippi watch college football this time of year!
Bottom third of the Tiger’s line up is 7 for 8! Well done!

Now that is something I’ve never seen before: Q-Berry getting himself thrown out on purpose, to prevent an appeal of Avila not tagging 3rd. What a way for his perfect streak to end.
OK, wait…now they have taken Avila’s run off the board. Which I guess means Berry is no longer out stealing?
Yeah…the umps said Cleveland appealled. D & J never saw/heard a verbal announcement of the appeal.
Meanwhile Sanchez quietly pitches along!
A very similar game to today’s White Sox v. Twins game. Both had no hitters going for 6 2/3 innings and finished 5-3 in score. Meanwhile, good to see Avila’s bat come alive; he is not familar with touching third base!
Avila will get tomorrow off..Mumbles will rest him after all this energy used up in this game…plus this adds to Avilas three highlights for the year. The Tigers won’t want that video to be too long
So is Sanchez becoming believable, or is it just that he was facing the depleted Indians?
