Game 2012.100: Tigers at Blue Jays

53-46, 2nd place, .5 games back.

Well, the 7th inning of last night was a swift kick somewhere painful. Once the Tigers went up 3-1 and we got to the 7th, I think that most of us felt safe that the win was in the bag. Then Verlander had a very un-Verlander like inning, where he gave up back to back HRs (on two pitches), and four straight singles to give Cle a 5-3 lead. That was only the 4th time in Verlander’s last 52 starts that he has given up 5 or more ER.

Despite 2 bad starts sandwiched in-between 3 fantastic ones, the Tigers look for their 6th straight win in a Porcello start. Ricky P has dominated the East this year, posting a 1.35 ERA over 20 innings in 3 starts.

I know we’ve been talking a lot about the OF situation, but even with Dirks coming to crowd Leyland’s options, the Tigers are still searching for a RH bat, as Morosi tweeted today that they are looking into Mets OFer Scott Hairston. Could Raburn be headed out of town? Dirks begins his rehab in Toledo on Sunday.

Tonight’s Lineup:

1. Jackson, CF
2. Berry, LF
3. Cabrera, 3B
4. Fielder, 1B
5. Young, DH
6. Boesch, RF
7. Peralta, SS
8. Avila, C
9. Infante, 2B

In nice to see DY starting to show some patience at the plate and taking some walks.

yes Delmon has a 3-game BB streak going…could be a career best for him.

the Jays have won the last 6 games Villanueva has appeared in – and he’s pitched quite well. He’s a recent convert from the bullpen, so his pitch count is a factor – his last two outings were 101 and 102 pitches (over 6 innings, each game).

DET made him throw 29 pitches in the first inning – probably 1/3 of his max…unless DET chases him before 100 pitches

is it just me or do you think along with me that Young~Peralta~Boesch~ Avila make at least 75% of their outs on pitches out of the strike zone…..Lloyd what do you think?…Huh, ask Toby….

of the 16 balls that were called on Porcellos pitches that inning that Toronto took ….the Tigers would have swung at 10 of them..

Well, the old Porcello is back, as are the old Tigers…Stranding base runners, no clutch hitting…This team has just entered a funk since hitting the road…

Man, what is it with the Tigers 2B position? It just eats batting averages alive. Infante has been an absolute dud since coming over…

Those 4 run innings are game killers …. the 7th inning yesterday and the 4th inning today.

Tigers never hit pitchers like Villanueava, Jimenez or Westbrook because they do not throw enough strikes and the Tigers ,as we well know have no patience for these kinds of pitchers.. The Tigers will swing no matter what…Toronto scores 4 by not swinging and the Tigs make out after out after out on pitches out of the zone

Lets see single double….now Young pops out on a pitch that is going to hit him…Boesch Ks on a ball in the right hand batters box….and Peralta swings thru a high curveball even with his chin……ah!..business as usual!!!
