Tigers beat Indians, then call up Brandon Inge.
That sentence itself is enough to generate enough commentary to last all night. We’ll push it a step further, with this tidbit: “Brandon Inge will be back in Detroit tonight and will start at third base against Cleveland left-handed pitcher David Huff and all left-handers thereafter.”
In the ESPN game preview they referred to Inge as “former Tigers All-Star Brandon Inge,” which is sort of cute, isn’t it?
To make room for Inge, the Tigers sent Andy Dirks to the land of muddy hens. So, in the outfield right now we have Boesch, Jackson, and Young, with Ordonez as a backup (Raburn is now the starting 2nd Baseman, and Kelly is 3rd string 3B, 3rd string 2B, backup catcher, and 5th outfielder).
So there you go. Discuss amongst yourselves.
But the Tigers are up by 2 1/2 now, after a stellar performance by Max Scherzer. Tonight Doug Fister tries to un-Washburn himself against David Huff, who has a season ERA of .051–but not to worry, he has had 2 starts against Detroit, and come away with a 6.00 ERA.
Player of the Pre-game: Brandon Inge
Yes, the call of Avila as player of the pre-game yesterday was pretty spot on, as they say. But I will resist the temptation to repeat, and instead play the Ingetangibles angle.

Raburn…. I can’t even say anything to express my outrage with the fact that Raburn is back to being a starter, despite the fact he is a liability at 2nd base and his inability to hit a basball.

And why so upset with Raburn at 2B? We had Polanco but he wasn’t good enough for us. You should be happy right?

Oh I’m just being facetious cause Polanco has that great defense, but at least his batting average is down this year a little so we don’t have to feel that bad! 🙂
Actually this is Polanco’s worst year of his career statistically, feel better?

A big ole “I’m back” from Inge. Wonder how long it will last…
Only one way to find out, and that’s to play him and keep Baitemit off the field. It would be nice if we could package WB and DY along with Raburn and put that towards a 2B upgrade. Or better yet, not trade for those guys in the first place and use all of those prospects to get one really good player instead of an assortment of mediocre players. We are the richest team in baseball in unspectacular players that don’t terribly suck, it only makes sense to consolidate for logical upgrades.
This lineup made me choke on a crabcake.
The names in the lineup or the production from the lineup?
The configuration sucks cause Delmon Young is in it, and too high in it, that’s my biggest gripe with today’s lineup.
This Fister guy is starting to get on my nerves. At this rate, he is going to be done in 4 innings.
To be fair, he’s having a pretty good night, but the efficiency is just not there…

First baseball game all year that I have actually had FUN watching. And no I don’t count games when Verlander is pitching, that’s too boring when the other team doesn’t have a chance. 😉
Close Delmon, just one step faster of his dribbler was just a wee bit slower that could have been a one-baser. Darn.

Inge just barely missed the 3rd piece of the cycle, oh well.
I’m torn between excited–the Indians really are a 79-83 team–and realizing Inge and Santiago starting in crucial games will not work longterm.
Then do what I do and don’t get so invested in this year and hold out hope for the 2012-2020 era. This is a freeroll year, we don’t deserve to win it all, and if we get lucky and do then so be it, otherwise we have nothing to lose at this point cause we already lost respect in the eyes of baseball logic and in the principle of playing the game the right way.
The report on Fister when this trade went down was that the Tigers would get this kind of pitcher….good to see this outing instead of another Washburn like outing….
