Zach Miner starts again The question of the 5th starter has been answered – for now. Zach Miner will take the spot formerly occupied by Eddie Bonine and before him Dontrelle Willis. Miner had some struggles with control out of the pen this year. But in two “stretch-out” starts for Toledo he has posted a … Continue reading Junkballing: Zach Miner, Tiger Stadium, and injured shortstops→
Zach Miner has rejoined the team for the DL. To make room the Tigers have put Tim Byrdak on the DL with tendonitis. And the revolvling door continues in the bullpen. Byrdak has really struggled in his last 4 outings with batters posting a 409/435/909 line against him including 7 extra base hits. Whether it … Continue reading Zach Miner is back→
Jeez. Another pitcher on the DL This time it is Zach Miner with elbow tendinitis. According to Danny Knobler the injury isn’t serious, but rather than be short handed in the pen for a few days, the Tigers are using the DL to get another arm up. In fact, this time it’s 2 arms in … Continue reading Zach Miner to the DL→
While all the reports yesterday were that Andrew Miller would be called up with Jeremy Bonderman going on the disabled list, today’s game notes indicate that Zach Miner was called up. My guess is that this is the result of the rainout and today’s doubleheader. Miner will give the team another arm in the bullpen … Continue reading Zach Miner called up→
So I was a little right about the Tigers looking to the minors for arm help. I just didn’t quite nail the execution of it. Zach Miner’s contract was purchased from Toledo and Jack Hannahan was optioned to the Mud Hens. Miner has pitched very well for the Hens with a 2.82 ERA in 9 … Continue reading Zach Miner up, Hannahan down→
The Tigers trimmed their roster down to 32 this morning with a couple of disabled list moves and other cuts. Most notable was the placement of Bobby Seay and Zach Miner on the 15 day disabled list.
Zach Miner paid the price for a 4 walk effort on Tuesday night with an assignment to Toledo. Aquilino Lopez who was being stretched out as a starter has been recalled to provide a strike thrower in the pen. Both moves are warranted, but my first thought when hearing of this was Denny Bautista. The … Continue reading Miner leaguer→
The Tigers shipped Craig Monroe and some cash to the Chicago Cubs for a player to be named later. Later being before October 15th, and the player likely to be a pitcher on the 40 man roster according to Jason Beck. With less than a million left on Monroe’s deal, I’m a little surprised that … Continue reading Comings and goings: C-Mo a Cub, Miner a Hen→
Two roster-ish type notes. First, Neifi Perez was suspended 80 games for another positive test of a banned stimulant. You think this is what Leyland meant when he said that Perez “brought a lot of energy” to the team. Let’s hope he kept it to himself. Also, Zach Miner has returned from his bereavement leave … Continue reading Neifi era ends, and Miner is back→
Ryan Raburn is back, Zach Miner is looking for answers, Brennan Boesch is swinging, and Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell are good at everything in today’s links.
This one looked bad at the outset. Armando Galarraga was the-awful again, but I get the feeling this wasn’t entirely unexpected. Jim Leyland had Zach Miner up and working relatively quickly. Yes, 5 runs were plated before Galarraga was lifted, but it’s not often you have a replacement up and warm 15 minutes after the game starts.
