Curtis Granderson’s 2009 season has received plenty of scrutiny, and this was even before trade rumors crept up. His .249 batting average was the lowest of his career and it was a drag on his on base percentage and slugging percentage as well. We know batting average is volatile so did Granderson just suffer from some bad luck, or did something else change? Fortunately we have hit location data to help shed some light on these questions.
Curtis Granderson had a heck of a 2007. He made baseball history accumulating 20 doubles, triples, homers, and stolen bases and becoming one of only 5 players to ever accomplish the feat. He had what was rated in many circles the defensive play of the year when he reached over the left-center field wall to pull back a Wily Mo Pena homer. He was a television analyst for two networks during the post-season. When all his work was done he served as an MLB ambassador in South Africa. Now he’s getting ready for the First Annual Curtis Granderson Celebrity Basketball Game to benefit the Grand Kids Foundation. Given his whirlwind tour I’m very appreciative that Granderson would take the time for an email interview with the Detroit Tigers Weblog.
Yesterday Maggs got the honors with the Player of the Month award. Today is a Curtis Granderson media blitz. First, he was the Tigers nominee for the Roberto Clemente award which honors players for their commitment to community and understanding of the value of helping others. Curtis’s work in this area is extensive and he’s … Continue reading It’s Curtis Granderson day→
Curtis Granderson launched a MySpace page during spring training and it got to be pretty popular. Only trouble is that this weekend while Grandy was hitting homers and taking away others, his page was deleted. With that went all 28,000 friends he had amassed. So clearly he’s a little lonely now. So if you were … Continue reading You too can be Curtis Granderson’s friend→
Don’t know if you’ve been following the news out of Lakeland, but it appears that Curtis Granderson struck out a lot last year. It also appears that a goal of the organization is that he strike out less this year. Essentially he just needs to make better contact. And changes in his There has been … Continue reading Curtis Granderson and his strike outs→
I don’t have other details at this point. In the game notes for tonight’s Mud Hens game it lists Curtis Granderson as being recalled. (via Motown Sports) I’m not sure who’s spot he is getting on the roster. My guess is that either Dmitri Young or Placido Polanco are being sent to the disabled list. … Continue reading Curtis Granderson Called Up→
The last 2 years Curtis Granderson has put on a celebrity basketball game as a fundraiser for his Grand Kids Foundation. Even though his status as a Tiger was in flux, his commitment to the kids wasn’t and Granderson announced that he will be hosting the event again this season.
Lynn Henning was ahead of the curve on the Curtis Granderson trade front. He started beating the drum for a Granderson trade in October. It’s something that I never would have seen coming. So kudos to Henning and his crystal ball. But why in the aftermath of the trade has he become so completely anti-Granderson and such a staunch supporter or all things Tigers?
While it seems that the blockbuster Yankees-Diamondbacks-Tigers trade may be a long shot at this point, the Tigers will likely still continue to be active on this front. I’d still say that a Curtis Granderson trade is a long shot, but an Edwin Jackson deal seems likely. We’ll keep track of the buzz here.
There is no real news on the Curtis Granderson and Edwin Jackson trade fronts, but here is a roundup of some news and related tweets from this morning.
I don’t know that we’ll cover every Tigers trade rumor here. It usually isn’t worth the effort, but there were some fairy significant reports regarding subjects of Edwin Jackson and Curtis Granderson.
It looked to be another successful event for Curtis Granderson and his Grand Kids Foundation. Depite some awful weather, there was still an impressive turnout of both fans and celebrities at Lake Orion High School. Granderson assembled and impressive roster of celebs and athletes with Michigan ties. The biggest in name value was probably Kid … Continue reading Granderson’s Celebrity Shoot Out – 2009→
