Per Jason Beck on Twitter Clete Thomas has been recalled and Don Kelly has been designated for assignment. The recall of Thomas is something that I’ve actually been expecting for awhile. He fixed his swing in relatively short order and in his last 28 days he’s hitting 357/432/476. He is still striking out quite a … Continue reading Clete Thomas recalled→
UPDATE: Per Jason Beck on Twitter Guillen hits the DL with shoulder inflammation. Also Jeff Larish is called up and Clay Rapada heads down. The Tigers have called up Clete Thomas. A corresponding roster move hasn’t been announced, but with Carlos Guillen’s struggles and general injury-ness (achilles and shoulder pain) it is likely he is … Continue reading Clete Thomas called up→
Hey, it’s Tommy John surgery time. Clete Thomas, who showed some promise with a nice eye from the left side of the plate and a cannon of an outfield arm will be missing the AFL, spring training, and some more. He underwent surgery today under the hand of Dr. James Andrews. Thomas is likely on … Continue reading The Clete Thomas injury→
One more cut took place today with outfield bench candidate Freddy Guzman being passed through waivers and outrighted to Erie. That leaves two players competing for the last bench spot (assuming that Ryan Raburn and Ramon Santiago make the team). Will it be back-up catcher Dane Sardinha or will Clete Thomas make the jump from AA Erie?
The latest technique to milk productivity from Magglio Ordonez is to platoon him and only give him starts against left handers. Clete Thomas will form the other side of the platoon which means he’ll get the bulk of the starts, especially with the team facing more right handers. For his career, Ordonez has hit lefties … Continue reading Maggs and Clete to platoon→
Following today’s game Clete Thomas was optioned to Toledo and Don Kelly was called up in his place. Beck quotes Leyland on Thomas and the decision: “Thomas has to work on shortening his swing,” manager Jim Leyland said. “This is not a punishment. This is a player that we love.” Kelly is versatile. He is … Continue reading Clete’s Out, the Cougars Cry→
It’s a bum deal. You hit your first big league homer and get sent to the minors. Clete Thomas was the outfielder optioned to Toledo to make room for Magglio Ordonez. So Matt Joyce will stick around and try to defend his AL Player of the Week honors.
Clete Thomas has been recalled from his rehab assignment. It has come at the expense of Brent Clevlen. Clevlen didn’t get the bat going, but he did play some slick defense in the outfield. Clevlen and Thomas are probably a push defensively, but Thomas carries a left handed stick which is probably the reason for … Continue reading Clete for Clevlen→
The Tigers have optioned Matt Joyce back to Toledo and have called up Clete Thomas. I suppose this is because they have the left handed option with Jeff Larish on the roster now to provide some power. And as Jason Beck noted, they want Joyce to play everyday and with Thames getting left field duties, … Continue reading Joyce down, Clete up→
