Tigers Minor League Wrap 5.25.10

Toledo 6 Syracuse 3
Carlos Guillen picked up 3 doubles, and the dinner tab. Max Scherzer went 7 innings and allowed just 1 run on 3 hits and a walk with 7 K’s. Scott Sizemore was 2 for 4. Ryan Strieby had 2 hits and drove in 5.

Erie 0 Trenton 4
Thad Weber gave up 10 hits and fanned only 1 but allowed just 4 runs in 6.2 innings. Shawn Roof had 2 of the 3 hits for the Seawolves.

Tampa 3 Lakeland 10
It was yet another electric night for Charlie Furbush. He went 8 innings and allowed a solo homer along with 3 other hits. But he walked none and fanned 12! That’s 44 strikeouts and 2 walks in his last 28 innings. Brent Wyatt and Rawley Bishop had 3 hit nights. Kody Kaiser and Daniel Fields each went 2 for 4.

West Michigan 3 Lansing 0
Giovany Soto pitched the 7 inning complete game shut out notching 6 K’s. Michael Rockett doubled in 2 runs.

West Michigan 1 Lansing 7
Avisail Garcia, Luis Palacios and Billy Alvino had the 3 hits. Victor Larez didn’t make it out of the 3rd inning before surrendering 6 runs on 9 hits.

Tigers Minor League Wrap 5.24.10

Toledo 3 Syracuse 6
The Tigers faced uber-prospect Stephen Strasburg, and managed to score. Deik Scram tripled and scored on a wild pitch. In the 4th inning Carlos Guillen singled (1 for 3 with a walk and 2 6-4-3 GIDPs on defense), Jeff Frazier doubled (3 for 4), and Casper Wells followed with a ground ball between third and short. LJ Gagnier allowed 6 runs in 5.2 innings but only 1 was earned, but a couple came around after his own error. Robbie Weinhardt faced one batter and was removed after the ominous “injury delay” according to the game recap.

Erie 4 Trenton 6
Duane Below allowed 5 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks in 3.2 innings with only 2 strikeouts. Anthony Shawler ate 3.1 scoreless innings. Cesar Nicolas and Michael Bertram each doubled and singled. Josh Burrus hit his 5th homer.

Lakeland 4 Tampa 1
Adam Wilk starred with 8 innings of 1 run ball on only 4 hits. He didn’t walk a batter and he fanned 8. Julio Rodriguez had 2 hits. Alden Carrithers reached base 3 times with a single and 2 walks.

West Michigan 2 Fort Wayne 3 (10 innings)
Jordan Lennerton doubled twice as part of a 3 for 5 day. Alexis Espinoza also picked up 3 hits. Trevor Feeney went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, 1 walk, and 6 K’s. Melvin Mercedes walked 3 and had a wild pitch in 1.2 innings and took the loss.

Toledo 8 Syracuse 5
Carlos Guillen homered and walked in his second rehab game. Both games they’ve kept him to 3 plate appearances before lifting him. Ryan Strieby hit his second homer after coming off the disabled list. Scott Sizemore doubled twice and Jeff Frazier, Brent Dlugach, and Casper Wells each had 2 hits. Enrique Gonzalez  allowed 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks with 4 K’s in 5 innings. Daniel Schlereth was roughed p for 2 runs on 4 hits and a walk in 1.1 innings.

Altoona 2 Erie 1
Andy Oliver was terrific, allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits in 6.2 innings while fanning 9 and walking 1. Christopher White went 2 for 3 and had 2 of the Seawolves 3 hits. Wilkin Ramirez drew 2 walks.

St. Lucie 4 Lakeland 10
Alden Carritthers doubled, singled, and walked. Rawley Bishop had 2 hits. Kody Kaiser homered. Francisco Martinez doubled and walked and his first week in Lakeland was a breeze as he posted a .375/444/438 line. Brayan Villarreal struck out 6 in 6 innings while allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 2 walks. Matt Hoffman went 2 scoreless innings of relief. Lester Oliverson, off the disabled list, allowed 4 baserunners and a run while recording 2 outs.

West Michigan 6 Fort Wayne 7
Jamie Johnson went 3 for 5 with a double. Jordan Lennerton, Avisail Garcia, and Mike Gosse each had 2 hits. Jade Todd didn’t make it out of the 4th innings before allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks though he did fan 4. His early exit was due to injury and not ineffectiveness.

Tigers Minor League Wrap 5.22.2010

Toledo 2 Syracuse 3
Alfredo Figaro pitched 6 innings with 5 strikeouts and 2 runs allowed on 6 hits and 3 walks. Scot Drucker fanned 4 in 2 innings but gave up a solo homer. Ryan Strieby homered and drove in both runs. Strieby returned from the DL just in time for Jeff Larish to head down with a groin injury.

Altoona 8 Erie 3
Michael Bertram doubled and singled. Justin Henry added a double. Brooks Brown only lasted 2 innings as he was hit up for 7 runs on 7 hits and a walk. Jay Voss ate 4 innings and only allowed an unearned run despite giving up 7 hits and a walk.

Altoona 7 Erie 3
Jeff Kunkel tripled which accounted for the only extra base hit for the Seawolves. Ramon Garcia allowed 5 runs in 4 innings on 8 hits and a walk. Zach Simons fanned 3 in 2 scoreless innings.

St. Lucie 5 Lakeland 2
Brent Wyatt went 3 for 4. Rawley Bishop, Kody Kaiser, Francisco Martinez, and Billy Nowlin all had 2 hits. Mark Sorensen gave up 10 hits in 6.1 innings and all 5 runs. Gil Mejia pitched 2.2 perfect innings with 3 K’s.

West Michigan 12 Fort Wayne 10
Michael Rockett tripled and singled. Alexis Espinoza and Shawn Roof both doubled and singled. Trevor Feeney pitched the first inning on Friday night. Victor Larez started on Saturday and went 3 scoreless innings. Luis Angel Sanz and Nolan Moody both struggled though and combined to give up 9 ruuns in 2.2 innings.

West Michigan 1 Fort Wayne 4
There were no offensive performances to speak of with only 5 singles for the Whitecaps. Jacob Turner fanned 7 and walked none in 4 innings but he was touched up for 3 runs on 5 hits.

Wilkin Ramirez and Andy Bouchie each homered. Cesar Nicolas walked twice. Jon Kibler was roughed up for 6 runs in 2.1 innings. Anthony Shawler, Jared Gayhart, and Luis Marte went the rest of the way though and combined to fan 6 while walking two and allowing just 1 hit.

St. Lucie 4 Lakeland 5
Alden Carrithers, Brent Wyatt, Kody Kaiser, and Julio Rodriguez all had 2 hits. Luke Putkonen had a strong start allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks to go with 5 strikeouts in 7 innings. Cory Hamilton got the last 5 outs for the save.

West Michigan – suspended

Tigers Minor League Wrap 5.20.2010

Durham 0 Toledo 4
Max Scherzer made his first start since being sent down to work on his mechanics. I think it is working. Scherzer pitched a 1 hitter for 8 innings. He walked one guy while fanning 10 in 103 pitches. Robbie Weinhardt preserved the shut out. Jeff Frazier homered and doubled. Ryan Raburn added his 6th double and a single.

The Tigers have sent 3 players to Toledo. So far the early returns have been good. We covered Scherzer, but Ryan Raburn and Scott Sizemore are also finding their way so far.

  • Ryan Raburn: 444/483/667 line in 7 games.
  • Scott Sizemore: 286/333/429 in 4 games

Erie 1 Richmond 5

There was no offense to speak of with only 6 singles and 2 walks for the Seawolves. Thad Weber went 7.2 innings and allowed 4 runs on just 5 hits and 3 walks despite his defense turning 4 double plays behind him.

St. Lucie 4 Lakeland  5 (11 innings)
Charlie Furbush starred again with 10 strikeouts in 6.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs on 2 hits and a walk. Furbush has a 39:4 K:BB ratio and a 1.67 ERA in his last 4 starts .Brent Wyatt went 3 for 4 with 2 walks and 2 steals. Gustavo Nunez also had 3 hits including a double. Daniel Fields doubled and tripled. Francisco Martinez had 2 hits. Martinez and Jimmy Gulliver were added from EST with Josh Workman and Bryan Pounds hitting the DL.

Lake County 15 West Michigan 5
Hernan Perez had 2 hits. Alexis Espinoza singled and walked. Lots of pitchers got beat up pretty good, but Ramon Lebron was the starter. He fanned 6 in 3 innings, but he also allowed 5 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks.

Jeff Frazier had 2 doubles. Deik Scram was a homer short of the cycle and added a walk. Scott Sizemore singled and walked. Lauren Gagnier pitched 7 shutout innings allowing 3 hits and a walk to go with 3 strikeouts. Jay Sborz was roughed up for 3 runs in 2 innings of work.

Erie 3 Richmond 1
Andy Oliver allowed 1 run on 7 hits, 3 walks, and 3 K’s in 6.2 innings. Brendan Wise went the rest of the way for the save. Justin Henry and Michael Bertram each went 3 for 5 with a double. Andy Dirks and Andy Bouchie.

Lakeland 5 Jupiter 4 (10 innings)
Brent Wyatt homered and drove in 4 as part of a 3 hit day. Alden Carrithers added 2 more hits. Brayan Villarreal allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, 2 walks, and 3 K’s in 5 innings.

Lake County 5 West Michigan 2
Avisail Garcia tripled and Mike Gosse doubled for the only extra base hits. Jade Todd struck out 5 and allowed 1 run on 9 hits and a walk in 6 innings.

Indianapolis 0 Toledo 3
Enrique Gonzalez tossed a complete game 2 hitter. He walked one and fanned 9, throwing 79 of his 119 pitches for strikes. Ryan Raburn picked up his 5th double and added a single. Brent Dlugach homered, driving in all 3 runs. Scott Sizemore went 0 for 3 with 2 strike outs.

Lakeland 10 Jupiter 3
Mark Sorensen struck out 5 and walked none in 7 innings as he scattered 7 hits and allowed 2 runs. Daniel Fields blasted his first homer and drew a walk. Alden Carrithers and Kody Kaiser had 4 hit days. Rawley Bishop was missing the homer for the cycle. Carrithers has a 9 game hitting streak in which he’s picked up 18 hits and 8 walks for a .605 OBP. Bishop has a 10 game hitting streak and is hitting 395/400/581 over that span.

Indianapolis 5 Toledo 6
Alfredo Figaro started and lasted 6 innings despite walking 4. He allowed 5 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts. Robbie Weinhardt allowed 2 hits and a walk in 3 shut out innings and got the win. Ryan Raburn and Jeff Frazier each went 2 for 4 with a double. Incidentally, the Mud Hens faced Wil Ledezma in relief and got to him for 2 runs.

Justin Henry went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 stolen bases. Michael Bertram singled, doubled, and walked. Brooks Brown went 5 innings and didn’t allow a hit while walking 2 and fanning 5 and getting 9 ground ball outs. Ramon Garcia pitched the other 4 innings and allowed just 2 hits.

Lakeland 3 Jupiter 0
Kody Kaiser went 3 for 4 and stole a base. Luke Putkonen had another strong start going 7.2 innings with just 4 hits and a walk allowed. Cory Hamilton finished the shut out allowing a single baserunner.

South Bend 6 West Michigan 5
Jacob  Turner wasn’t touched for the first 5 innings. He gave up 2 runs in the 6th and his final line was 5.1 IP, 4 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 7 K’s. Jamie Johnson, Michael Rockett, Wade Gaynor, Mike Gosse, and Hernan Perez all had 2 hit games.

Jon Kibler allowed 6 runs in 6.1 innings. Wilkin Ramirez tripled and homered. Michael Bertram went deep as well.

Tampa 2 Lakeland 1 (11 innings)
Charlie Furbush struck out 9 in 7 innings of 2 hit ball. Kody Kaiser tripled and singled. Rawley Bishop and Alden Carrithers both doubled and singled.

South Bend 1 West Michigan 3
Avisail Garcia homered. Trevor Feeney pitched the complete game with 7 K’s, 1 walk, and 6 hits allowed.

The largest crowd in Toledo Mud Hen history saw a clunker. Ryan Raburn went 2 for 4 and Brent Dlugach and Robinzon Diaz added two hit games as well. Ryan Ketchner allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (2 were homers), 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Scot Drucker struggled and allowed 5 baserunners and 3 runs in 1.2 innings.

Erie 2 Bowie 3
Cale Iorg homered. Andy Dirks, Michael Bertram, and Shawn Roof had the other hits. Andy Oliver pitched only 1 inning due to an hour rain delay that hit in the second inning. Anthony Shawler allowed 1 run on a solo homer in 3 innings of relief while striking out 4.

Lakeland 5 Tampa 1
Alden Carrithers, Rawley Bishop, Bryan Pounds, and Josh Workman all had two hit games. Adam Wilk had his second strong start in a row with 1 run surrendered on 4 hits and a walk to go with 5 K’s in 7 innings. He’s walked one batter in his last 25.2 innings.

South Bend 3 West Michigan 4
Wade Gaynor doubled and singled and has seen his season line climb to 276/340/410 after notching 7 extra base hits in his last 10 games. Avisail Garcia tripled and singled and Jamie Johnson added 2 hits. Ramon Lebron allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts in 5 innings. Kevin Faulk pitched 3 innings of scoreless ball with 3 K’s to win the extra inning affair.

Jeff Frazier doubled and drove in 3. Max Leon added 2 doubles. Armando Galarraga allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks in 6 innings with 6 strikeouts. Jay Sborz got the 4 out save capping it with a strike out on a breaking ball.

Luke Putkonen pitched the first 6 innings of the shutout allowing 3 runs, 3 walks, and fanning 3. Brent Wyatt and Rawley Bishop each had 2 hits.
