Game 2017.154: Twins at Tigers

OK, the post is a little late today. But I’ve never missed one! I’ve just been a little stunned at the prospect of life without Brad Ausmus. It’s almost like when we lost Luis Pujols.

OK, maybe I do have a mean streak. Really though, I think Brad brings something to the table. Wrong fit at the wrong time.

The next manage is going to be a place filler, while they regroup. No Terry Francona, no Maddon. Hopefully a guy good at bringing along young players. On current staff I’d give Vizquel a look.

Today’s Lineup:

  1. Ian Kinsler 2B
  2. Alex Presley RF
  3. Miguel Cabrera iB
  4. Nick Castellanos DH
  5. Jeimer Candelario 3B
  6. Mikie Mahtook LF
  7. James McCann C
  8. JaCoby Jones CF
  9. Jose Iglesias SS

Pitching: Daniel Norris vs Kyle Gibson

Let’s hope Van Man comes back, he might be part of the future.

  1. The replacing of Jim Leyland was a huge deal. I even went to spring training and gave you guys a day by day report on how things were different. More meaningful drills. More running. Agressive play during exhibition games. Brad was absolutely in charge and the players responded…. Over the course ofthat first year things changed. Brad, as was mentioned went old school. No running, no bunting, no hit and running, relievers has to go a full inning, no match ups. Starters had to go 100 pitches even if they gave up 10….the 2nd,3rd,4th year things even got worse. Brad was liked by the guys because they were in control. KRod, Miggy, VMart are perfect examples. Fundemental baseball went out the window if it was there in the first place. Sitting the hot bat because its that players turn to sit was the dumbest of the dumb moves. Locking in a 7-8-9 guy in the pen even if they didnt do the job was another. Never ever pinch hitting for a guy who is struggling is another…… These things among others are why you are gone, Brad…. Thank you for your time and effort, but we won’t miss you

    1. I think Brad will be alright. Smart guy, 20+ years of MLB experience, still young. Wrong place at the wrong time though. Sometimes failing leads to learning, I hope Brad learns and improves.

  2. And Brad we are not blaming you for VMart, Miggy, Kinsler, Zimmerman, Pelfrey, KRod, Sanchez, etc etc etc………

    1. I do blame him a little for Miggy. The guy kept leaving games for back tightness; perfect reason to DL him, even if you don’t feel you can sit him on the bench.

      1. Jud, I think the progression for New School Brad to Old School Brad had a lot to do with what he inherited and was being given. Blood from a turnip. Not that he doesn’t have a kind of old school bent anyway, but he saw which way the wind was blowing. Gotta work with what they give you, and it’s a rare manager who confronts the front office about personnel decisions. These guys are also known as ex-managers. Though Brad has now joined that club anyway, temporarily. Not a job known for long tenures, mostly.

    1. I think he always tried hard. But when the whole team is clicking, it’s different. You play better without any more effort, if that makes sense.

      1. Tonight JV 7 innings 1 hit 2 BB 6 K’s. Just another day at the office. I’ll bet he’s worried that he walked 2.

  3. Go Stros.. And Cubbies.. And DBacks… And heaven forbid the Angels. I am having fun following the EX TIGERS…….
