  1. Boyd.. Sanchez.. Zimmerman.. Norris… Farmer… Wilson… Hardy….
Are the Jeckle and Hyde show. You never know which one you will get on a given day.

    1. Zimm is going tomorrow but with all his injuries this season I wonder if he shouldn’t just shut down and hope they can heal him for next year.

  2. These last 20 games are exactly why Ausmus cant manage next year and I doubt the Tiger Brass will get it. The last 20 and all next year will be about manufacturing runs. Who is worse than Ausmus. He doesnt steal.. He doesnt hit and run.. He never bunts. Zero small ball.. .. He doesn’t belive in giving up outs to move runners.. His 3 run dinger theory he got from Leyland doesn’t work if you can’t hit the dinger.. with 2 guys on…. Since he has been here he has never been able to manufacture runs..
Will be a very poor choice in my opinion to coach a young, non home run type team. Plus we all know how bad he is in one run games using his pen guys!

    1. I agree but what really gets me is how bad we are at fundamentals. Small stuff like hitting the cutoff man, base running and your favorite running the first 90 feet. Is that who you want to teach youngsters?

      1. Castellanos is an Ausmus youngster. He has a potent bat (usually), but can’t field and runs into outs over and over again, almost like Kinsler. OK, the veterans aren’t immune either.

  3. if the season were to end today, DET would have the 4th overall pick in the ’18 draft …let me guess, a power-arm 18 year old

      1. They already have Christin Stewart and, for the time being, Steven Moya. But that was probably your point.

        1. What I was trying to say is that maybe we should become a strong pitching, higher average batting, scratch for runs type ball team. If we were in Camen Yards, then big boppers would make more sense. I don’t know Stewart but Casty looks a lot better in RF than Moya did, which is tragic.

          1. There’s a middle ground between boppers and scratching out runs where most good teams live, but Detroit is so far from strong pitching that the offense has become irrelevant, which is why I am absolutely jonesing to see Cabrera, Martinez, and Castellanos ship out.

  4. Castellanos’s trade value has gone up up up over the past couple months. He will fetch two very good pitching prospects if they are so inclined.

  5. The losing continues to get more epic. 11-35 over the last 46. 2003 is an island unto itself, but outside of that island, it’s hard to find comparisons with the 2017 collapse.

2002: Detroit finished that season 11-35, after starting it 0-11. This team was probably worse than the 2003 team, just, um, “luckier.”

1996: Detroit (with a catcher named Brad Ausmus) endured a brutal 10-46 stretch, but, considering the fact that they were in last place for most if it, was it really a collapse? A statistical candidate for worst Tigers team ever.

1975: Well, how about a nice 12-48 finish to the season and a 19-game losing streak? How could a team with Mickey Lolich and Willie Horton be so crappy? Because they traded Eddie Brinkman before the season, that’s how. (For Nate Colbert. See how that went.) I’m kidding. Who knows. I don’t remember.

2017 is in line to be crowned King of the Collapses.

  6. when its pretty clear that a AL team w/a .500 record will grab the last ‘wild card’ spot, its even more sad that DET haven’t even been in contention (w/a .500 team) for a month

whatever you think about Ausmus, he and the coaching staff will be gone… and I’d consider that, making a few trades for some young talent…and a top 4 pick in the draft as a good place to start the rebuilding process

I live in and see how HOU rebuilt; and they dumped ALL their large contracts and were awful for 4 years – losing 106, 107 & 111 in ’11, ’12, ’13 and losing 92 in ’14 – and look at them, and their farm system now
