Game 2017.60: Tigers at Red Sox

Yesterday’s rubber game looked promising, but then Mike Fulmer switched to batting practice mode. Fulmer gave up 5 runs in back to back starts, which is the first time he has done that, in the majors or minors. Cause for concern?

It was inevitable, but I admit I was a little sad to swap out Hicks for McCann today.

Verlander seems OK, and is starting Saturday.

Today’s Lineup:

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. JD Martinez, RF
  6. Justin Upton, LF
  7. Mikie Mahtook, CF
  8. James McCann, C
  9. Jose Iglesias, SS

Pitching: Jordan Zimmermann vs Brian Johnson

In today’s centerfielder roulette the ball drops on Mikie Mahtook. Tyler Collins still leads the team with 21 games at CF, which is still only 36% of the games.

  1. All in all, I think CF might as well belong to Andrew Romine most of the time. With or without that, boy is he getting some playing time this season. He’s going to end up with close to a full-timer’s allotment, I think, and it’s not a bad thing. Good for him. Lettuce = SuperDonkey. Donkey Kong.

  2. While working on my MLB Beat the Streak for the next couple weeks I notice Blackman had 86 hits, several batters in the high 60’s and 70’s. The Pussycats leader is Victor at 52, pretty sad. In fact this year I hardly put any Tiger on anyday..for obvious reasons…

      1. Beat The Streak has a pretty lousy payoff considering the odds. It should be $56.7 million.

(Oops. Though I just read that the prize was $5.67 million, which I thought was odd. Make it $5.6 billion. The prize would be won this year.)

  3. I can’t believe Brad didn’t even consider challenging the play at first! Could have meant a run.

      1. The play with Mikie “Home Run” Mudhen. I had the dishes tonight so if we burned our replay, I missed it.

  4. The guy (sorry missed his name) from Fox Sports that was in the booth earlier with Mario and Rod told us more of what’s going on with Miggy than I’ve heard anywhere else. It was not encouraging.

      1. Game is on Fox Broadcast tomorrow, I’m sure they’ll mention it. It relates on how Miggy is concerned abut his age/body condition and trying to lose weight during the season. Gave me the impression his confidence is not what it should be.

        1. Miggy just needs a hug. He needs to know that we still love him even after he strikes out four times.

  5. Castellanos notwithstanding, you have to admit that the Tigers are not the defensive clown show they used to be when they were winning division titles.

  6. So Mikie Mathook is now only 1 Home Run behind the $25,000,000 man. Hey Brad anything wrong with Miggy….Naw..I’m not worried!

    1. 2 K’s. Wait, never mind, possibly a time lag with Gameday. Didn’t need the spoiler, ha ha.

  7. This at last is the Zimmermann the Tigers paid for. Cool. Now for more runs. Detroit runs, I mean.

  8. Hey Brad what did you think of Miggy today. Well the dribbler he hit to the mound was one of his best swings of the night!

  9. Too bad, Miggy 4 K’s, we strand 9runners. Wasted good start by Zimm. And Big Pappi had nothing to do with it!

  10. Tigers throw A Wilson under the bus yet no one mentions the worst offense in the entire MLB in the 7–8-9 innings..in fact whens the last time Might..Victor..Kinsler.Avila…JD,.
.Casty. ..McCann…did something in the 7<9 innings to pull a game out….I know blame AWilson

    1. +1 8th inning would have been a lot less critical if we had gotten a key hit or two early. Miggy is obviously struggling should he be hitting 3rd?

  11. Sale either blanks the Tigers or they 4-5 him..no in between…unfortunately more often than not he zips them..he is good!

    1. I’d move Iggy up to bat 3rd. He’s hot and has homered off him. Miggy is clearly having problems.
