Game 2017.59: Angels at Tigers

Buck Farmer is going to be difficult to get out of the rotation at this rate: that’s two starts for Farmer now, and he has yet to give up a run, and the Tigers finally got that elusive shutout.

The only real lowlight of the game came when Nick Castellanos added to his impressive season blooper reel by smacking Miggy in the face with his batting helmet.

Michael Fulmer, uncharacteristically, gave up plenty of runs last time out. Today he gets a chance to make up for that and give the Tigers a series win before they head off to Boston.

Today’s Rubber Game Lineup:

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Alex Avila, C
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. JD Martinez, RF
  6. Justin Upton, LF
  7. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  8. Andrew Romine,  CF
  9. Dixon Machado, SS

Pitching: Michael Fulmer vs JC Ramirez

It’s The Lettuce riding the centerfield carousel today.

  1. The way the Tigers jacked Farmer around for years, just like they do so often. I hope he makes it in the Bigs for awhile. He deserves a solid shot!

    1. I don’t know that they jacked him around. Farmer had his chances before and wasn’t that impressive. The last starter of any note to come up in the Tigers system was Rick Porcello – oh wait, maybe it was Drew Smyly – and it’s been clear enough that Detroit has felt compelled to go elsewhere for young pitching talent for years. Ray, Lobstein, Fulmer, Boyd, Norris.

      1. The last year or so I think they gave Farmer a legit shot. But they did the Yoyo bit with him at least a year or two, like they do with almost all young pitchers.

  2. Great game to bring in Frankie. 1 up 1 down. He’ll be ready to replace JWillie soon.

  3. Good to see the Aussie have a clean inning after several days off. Might need him in Boston.

  4. God, what happened here? 15 hits and 4 runs? Up 4-1 to down 11-4? I guess the new bullpen guys got their clocks cleaned. Is one game above .500 too much to ask? So much for optimism. Crud.

  5. Fullmer gave up 6 straight rockets. Not a cheap one in the bunch. All were basically fastballs down the middle…No changeups..no breaking balls….meanwhile Miggy..Victor..JD strand 11…bad pen had nothing to do with it….it was over at 5-4 in the 5th……nuff said..

    1. +1 Actually 2nd start that Fullmer was less than brilliant. In the 1st we scored one, 2 on no outs then 3 Ks’ (Victor, JD and J-Up)Putting a ball in play might have changed the game. When Fullmer was knocked around around Greene came in and shut the rally down. We were only down 1 run. Then came Leon and Stumpf who gave up the rest of the runs, all in the same inning.

  6. Our old friend Jhonny was Dffa’d today by the Cards, who also shook up their Coaching staff… they are having a nightmare season, wonder if they have a blog….

    1. I wondered whether the Tigers might sign Peralta for Toledo, who could use the help at 3B. Justin Verlander wouldn’t like it, but still.

  7. Another error for Nick, that’s 18 now. He has an outside shot at the AL record (64).
