Game 2017.29: Tigers at A’s

As JD Martinez begins his rehab assignment ( 2 hits at DH), his fill-in is making a pretty good show of it. Jim Adduci had a clutch bases loaded triple to put the game out of reach, and continues to put up numbers that would be nice even for JD Martinez: so far in 37 plate appearances he is hitting .343 with a .950 OPS. Not bad for a guy who was last seen playing in Korea.

There is a nice story on Jim Adduci here.

Ian Kinsler is day-to-day with hamstring tightness. But don’t worry, The Lettuce has things under control.

Today’s Lineup:

  1. Andrew Romine, 2B
  2. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. Justin Upton, LF
  6. Alex Avila, C
  7. Tyler Collins, CF
  8. Jim Adduci, RF
  9. Jose Iglesias, SS

Pitching: Jordan Zimmerman vs Jesse Hahn

  1. This is an important game for Zimm. He hasn’t looked too good this year and he is not hurt, or so they say. He needs to have a good outing against the feeble hitting A’s. If he doesn’t we’ll need to pray a few rosaries for Sanchez to recover.

  2. 34 pitches is one thing… But you need to score runs when that happens!… At least a good sign with the swing happy Tigers is they did a good job of grinding out their at bats in that first!

  3. After the game Brad confirmed he still has confidence in his closer. Even C-Mo put himself in hot water with management by daring to imply that J-Willie would be a better choice. He pointed out that right now he is our best pen pitcher and he has the tools (high 90’s fast ball, wipe out slider) to be successful as a closer. Gutsy analysis by C-Mo.

In spite of the glowing words by our announcers, I thought Zimm’s outing was rather ordinary. He didn’t even go six and served up curly fries for Oakland. Hopefully he will get better.

Fact is while we have serious ball pen issues, our most serious issue is still the manager.
