Game 2017.25: Indians at Tigers

The win yesterday was sorely needed.

The Tigers have called up Chad Bell, who is a long reliever, and a lefty. Joe Jimenez was sent back down in the swap for Long Lefty. I don’t know, he seems to have dynamite stuff in the minors, and gets lit up on the big team. Is it just his youth, or is he on the wrong side of the fine line? That will be one of the interesting questions of this season.

The Tribe seem to be kicking it into gear. I guess that’s a motorcycle metaphor? And which tribe are they anyway? Erie, I would imagine? They are quite vague on that issue.

Miggy is due back tomorrow. It will take him a while to get to where he can replace the production of Avila/Hicks. Production from the first base position has actually improved while he was out. Enough can’t be said about the job Avila, Hicks, and Adduci have done filling in for the DL guys.

Today’s Lineup:

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  2. Tyler Collins, CF
  3. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  4. Victor Martinez, DH
  5. Justin Upton, LF
  6. Alex Avila, 1B
  7. Jim Adduci, RF
  8. James McCann, C
  9. Jose Iglesias, SS

Pitching: Daniel Norris vs Trevor Bauer

Brantley is back, which can’t be a good thing.

Trivia question: When is the last time the Tigers have had the same lineup two consecutive days?

  1. Norris was good, although some minor command problems. Tigers brought their bats today so this thing SHOULD BE pen proof. Hoping JV gives a better performance than he did in Cleveland.

  2. It’s OK to bring in Sanchez but I hope he has backup ready. 1 K already, earning his 21.8Mil.

    1. Ole Miss, that’s got to be the best outing Sanchez has had in a while. His stuff looked good. If he can continue to improve it would be significant later in the year.

      1. Something to build on. Tigers are 4-1 against the Tribe…they only won 4 games against them last year.

        1. Agreed Ole MS…”something to build on”…7 straight innings of bullpen w/ 0 ER and only three hits

“W’s” against CLE count are key

  3. Spending a little quality time with Heidi on MLB and saw the report on the game. Two take aways: 1) “fingers” had a highlight reel, and 2) Norris threw a breaking ball that reminded me why I became a Firefighter and not a big league lefty. I would have given my left you know what to throw just one pitch like that.

    1. I should think we’ll see him again if or should we say when McCann or Avila get injured. Or, perish the thought, Miggy again.

  4. JV vs Kluber – 5 lefty bats in the DET lineup tonight

    Ian Kinsler 2b
    Nick Castellanos 3b
    Miguel Cabrera 1b
    Victor Martinez dh
    Justin Upton lf
    Tyler Collins cf
    Alex Avila c
    Jim Adduci rf
    Andrew Romine ss

  5. Avila has more RBI than Cabrera, despite the fact Cabrera has 16 more AB’s …i’ll admit i was completely wrong about the AAvila signing…so far anyway – he’s been huge

    1. Yeah. Haven’t been watching. Has anyone else who has been watching seen a difference in Avila’s batting? Just a fluke? Last time I watched him with the Tigers, he truly looked lost at the plate every time out.
