Game 2016.135: Tigers at Royals

That’s was quite a game on any day, much less a high-stakes September playoff run game. With the Royals seemingly stealing the game from the Tigers in the bottom of the 8th, only to have the Tigers take it back in the top of the 9th.  Francisco Rodriguez looked unhittable in the 9th to get the win, after looking like a disaster and blowing the save in the 8th. It was like two different pitchers.

The real story of the game though was Miguel Cabrera, who had one of those Cabrera days we had gotten spoiled by in the past, knocking in 4. Upton continues to roll as well with two hits and another home run. My pick for today’s big bat though is JD Martinez, who is 7-for-16 against Ventura (.438). Let’s hope the Tigers come through unscathed: Ventura drilled both Collins and Kinsler when the two teams faced each other.

The Tigers have brought up side-arming lefty Joe Mantiply (who will be certain autocorrect bait) from AA Erie to add to the bullpen.

Today’s Lettuce Win Another Lineup:

  1. Kinsler, 2B
  2. Iglesias, SS
  3. Cabrera, 1B
  4. V Martinez, DH
  5. JD Martinez, RF
  6. Upton, LF
  7. Collins CF
  8. McCann, C
  9. Romine, 3B

  1. OK Jud, walk the first 2 batters, then everyone else lets swing at the very first pitch, just in case it happens to be a strike. How to kill a rally 101.

  2. Also my other “no one on the Tigers feels the need to do this”..JD doubles..Upton doesn’t bother to try and move him up to third. Brad says he doesn’t believe in it…I watch the Cubs a lot. Most players are pretty good at it and they get that runner in from third when they get him there also….Tony I looked this up yesterday. CUBS have 150 more BB than the Tiger swing swing swing theory. Its not that they should have as many as the Cubs, but I bet the Cubs swing at a heck of a lot less crappy pitches.

  3. Nice at bat by JD. Hope J-Up went to school. Nope, drives me nuts. 4 pitch walk swing at the first pitch,

  4. My maybe last rant of the week…1 run on 6 hits..Story of the Ausmus era..no clue how to manufacture runs…they get them by slugging only…good game so far though…They actually manufactured one today, kinda lucky!

  5. How many 1st pitch outs does that make. And against a pitcher who’s throwing almost as many balls as strikes. We can not afford to lose this game.

  6. That might not be my first choice (Mark Lowe) but I do not have all the data that Brad has available.

  7. A ho-hum game…BUT you can’t lose when Cleveland wins……period!..Indians are doing what they need to do!
