Game 2016.5: Pirates at Tigers

Well, the Tigers find themselves 8 days into the regular season with only 4 games played, due to some scheduling quirks and a rain-out (cold-out) last night. But that just means lots more baseball to come. Three other teams have only managed 4 games played thus far as well. If you can’t tell, I hate it when we don’t get a full slate the first week of the season.

Anyway, first pitch for the Pirates series is just about 30 minutes away. Verlander gets his second start after a so-so first start. JV was dominant through 5 innings last week, and really pitched better than the final box score demonstrated, but last week’s 6th inning was all too reminiscent of last year’s struggles.

Two game set in Detroit followed by two more in Pittsburgh.

Today’s lineup:

1. Ian Kinsler, 2B

2. Justin Upton, LF

3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B

4. Victor Martinez, DH

5. J.D. Martinez, RF

6. Nick Castellanos, 3B

7. James McCann, C

8. Tyler Collins, CF

9. Jose Iglesias, SS

  1. May be a very long day for us. JV is not sharp and may be done before 5. Casty nice homer to right. If he gets a couple of more hits we’ll have to rest him tomorrow. JV is in a pickle. Do we have anyone up yet in the pen?

  2. Can’t wait for JV and Asmus to tell us how well JV’s stuff was today!..5 doubles 10 hits in 23 batters…wow!

  3. I notice that after 5 games not even one Stolen Base attempt. I guess Mr Cybernetics is working in that base running problem..by not running. Put that in your computer!

  4. If our starters continue to give up 7 runs early, you’re not likely to see any steal attempts. But I still wonder why we keep swinging at the first pitch when we are down and need base runners (even though JD hit one out). JV has had one OK (not brilliant) start that he should have gotten the win and one awful start today. Sanchez was good in his first start but we have to wait to see how he continues since he didn’t have a full spring training. Zimmerman was as advertised. Biggest surprise has been the ball pen, even though F-Rod has not been sharp, the pen has been good. A lot depends on Greene tomorrow. Miggy and VMart have not been over achieving so far, but seem healthy.

  5. The bullpen with only the one inning exception looks like a real bullpen!..biggest (+) so far. ..Second biggest (+) so far is CastY hot start.!
